0Description of the item or service required, the estimated cost, and required delivery date.

We need a server that supports multiple general-purpose FPGA PCle boards for mission needs of experimenting with prototype parallel architectures. We estimate that the cost will be approximately $XX,XXX.XX for a system that supports mission requirements. We expect a delivery date near May 2020 so that research can begin in the summer intercessional period.

Specific characteristics of the material or service that limit the availability to a sole source/ brand name (unique features, function of the item, etc.). Describe in detail why only this source/brand name can furnish the requirements to the exclusion of other sources/brands.

The FPGA PCle cards must support general-purpose computation. Other existing servers that include FPGA cards only support specific uses for those cards. For example, Dell servers that support FPGA cards only support network acceleration. Mission needs also require that the server is identical to existing systems at collaborating institutions for experimental reproducibility. Bittware is able to provide both general-purpose FPGA cards and a server that contains enough general-purpose FPGA cards to support the intended research involving parallel architectures with at least 4 cores.

The requested material or service represents the minimum requirements of the government.

The server and FPGA PCle cards requested are identical to the systems being used at collaborating institutions. The FPGA cards support general-purpose computation, which is required for this research.
