PERFORMANCE WORK STATEMENT

A. Project Background

The US Geological Survey (USGS) maintains geomagnetic observatories throughout the United States. The observatories are tasked with continually monitoring the magnetic field of the earth and generally consist of an office, sensor and electronic building, and one or more houses. This Statement of Work (SOW) concerns the maintenance and upkeep of the Fredericksburg magnetic observatory’s grounds. The Fredericksburg magnetic observatory was established in 1956; for many years it served as the Geomagnetism Program’s headquarters.

Today, because it has produced high-quality data for so many years, Fredericksburg is one of the world’s most important observatories. The observatory grounds consist of approximately 15 acres of rough grass and woodlands and because of its age and importance it requires a substantial amount upkeep and maintenance. The objective of this procurement is for a capable contractor to maintain the facility grounds. Services required by the contractor are estimated at approximately 20 hours of work per week and will be seasonal (April 1 to October 31).
