About this file
This document is a product specification and installation prerequisites sheet for the SmarTracker™ Hamburg Wheel Tracker, published by InstroTek, Inc., a company located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The document provides detailed technical requirements and training information for installing and using this specialized asphalt testing equipment.
The SmarTracker is a technical testing device with specific installation requirements, including a 48" x 54" x 50" footprint, a shipping weight of 1,650 lbs, and a need for a dedicated 230VAC/60Hz single-phase electrical circuit with a 30-amp minimum capacity. The installation requires a hot water supply (30-50 gallon water heater), flexible water line connections, and optional floor drain access. Training takes one full day and mandates four gyratory compacted asphalt samples (150 mm diameter, 62-63 mm height) for demonstration. The device requires specific spatial clearances: 18 inches behind, 18 inches to the left, and 24 inches to the right, with a minimum door opening of 44" to facilitate movement.

DIMENSIONS & TRAINING TIMES POWER REQUIREMENTS & PLUG
Footprint: 48 L X 54 W X 50 H inches Shipping Dims: 64 L x 64 W x 65 H inches Shipping Weight: 1650 lbs.
Minimum space around unit: 18 inches behind the device (24 inches is recommended to allow easy access to the water ports); 18 inches to the left side of the device and 24 inches to the right side (controller side) of the device.
Door opening— If applicable, a door opening of at least 44" must be available for the SmarTracker to move through.
Please allow one full day of training. Training consists of reviewing the equipment software and operations (sample prep), and suggested schedule of cleaning and
PM. Setup, verifi cation, and confi guration will take 2 to 4 hours prior to training.
Dedicated 230VAC/60Hz single phase circuit with a minimum capacity of 30 amps is recommended. All electrical circuits, hardware and components should be specifi ed by a licensed electrician prior to the installation.
WATER SUPPLY & DRAIN
Supply: Hot water supply is necessary (30-50 gallon water heater set to 115°F has been shown to be effective). A hot water supply will decrease the initial time to heat the water to the testing temperature by up to 4 hours (contact InstroTek for additional options if you are unable to have a hot water supply). The SmarTracker water inlet is fi tted with a standard 3/4" female garden hose connection. It is recommended that the system is connected with a fl exible water line to the building hot water supply. An in-line shutoff valve is recommended on the hot water supply line, but it is not required to operate the SmarTracker.
Drain: A fl oor drain is preferred, but not required. The system can also be connected to an in-house system drain, assuming the drain is below the HWT tank level. At a minimum, a 5-gallon bucket can be used to drain the tank into a sink. The system has three drains (two top tanks and a single bottom tank), these have 3/4" garden hose connections.
