About this file
This document is a justification for awarding a sole source contract to purchase a Shimadzu High Performance Liquid Chromatography instrument from Shimadzu Scientific Instruments. The United States Geological Survey plans to award a firm fixed price contract valued at $67,020.61 to procure a Shimadzu LC 2050C HPLC with autosampler and photodiode array detector. The justification cites the need to maintain continuity of data from previous projects using the same Shimadzu equipment model to meet critical deadlines and compare results to existing libraries. Market research found Shimadzu Scientific Instruments has various small business distributors and resellers qualified to supply the product. To overcome barriers to competition, the agency will conduct market research on future requirements and compete similar procurements when other sources become available.
