About this file
This is a Statement of Work for the 2026 SHADOZ Intermet Radiosonde Order. The requirement is for 255 total Intermet Radiosondes to support the SHADOZ long-term ozonesonde measurement network, which maintains multi-decadal balloon-borne ozone profile records for satellite validation, ozone and pollution trend analysis, and climate studies. The radiosondes must ensure consistency with existing SHADOZ records and compatibility with ground data collection systems currently operational at multiple SHADOZ stations.
The instruments will be distributed to two locations: 55 Intermet Radiosondes will be shipped to US Space Force personnel in Melbourne, Florida for logistics and shipping support to the Ascension Island SHADOZ station, and 200 Intermet Radiosondes (consisting of two types) will be shipped to NOAA SHADOZ colleagues in Boulder, Colorado. SHADOZ station operators will be responsible for preparing, launching, and collecting data from the radiosondes on free-flying weather balloons at tropical SHADOZ stations, with all data subsequently transmitted to NASA/GSFC in Greenbelt, Maryland. The delivery deadline for this approximately one-year supply is 31 August 2026.

STATEMENT OF WORK
2026 SHADOZ Intermet Radiosonde Order
Background The SHADOZ long-term ozonesonde measurement network needs to continue their multi-decadal balloon borne ozone profile records for satellite validation, ozone and pollution trends, and climate studies. This requirement is for 255 total Intermet Radiosondes. The Intermet Radiosondes are required to ensure consistency with the existing SHADOZ records, and compatibility with the ground data collection systems currently in place at several SHADOZ stations.
Scope The operators at SHADOZ stations shall prepare, launch, and collect the data from the Intermet Radiosondes, and send the data to NASA/GSFC in Greenbelt, MD.
These instruments will either be shipped to US Space Force personnel in Melbourne, Florida, who assist with the logistics and shipping for the Ascension Island SHADOZ station (55 Intermet Radiosondes), or will be shipped to NOAA SHADOZ colleagues in Boulder, CO (200 Intermet Radiosondes, two types).
Place of Performance This work (launching these instruments on free-flying weather balloons) will be performed at SHADOZ stations in the tropics.
Period of Performance This order represents an approximately one-year supply of Intermet Radiosondes to be delivered by 31 August 2026.
