About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for NASA Langley Research Center's procurement of Geometric Integrity HyperFlux Software. The contractor shall deliver a perpetual software license including HyperFlux source code, a structured simplicial 4D grid generator, pre- and post-processing utilities, and comprehensive documentation. The effort is divided into three major deliverable milestones: (1) by May 31, 2026, delivery of the initial HyperFlux software package with capabilities to generate 4D grids and solve convection equations, including documentation of accuracy and iterative convergence assessed via the method of manufactured solutions; (2) by August 31, 2026, delivery of enhanced HyperFlux source code with edge-based discretization capabilities for inviscid-flow equations on 4D simplicial grids in the AFLR3 .ugrid format compatible with NASA's FUN4D solver, demonstrated on a representative aerodynamic configuration such as the ONERA M6 wing; and (3) by December 31, 2026, documentation of iterative convergence and solution accuracy for the enhanced solver on 4D simplicial grids. The work supports NASA's CIF-IRAD program objective to develop a 4D unstructured-grid space-time CFD solver (FUN4D) for large-scale, long-duration, time-accurate simulations on leadership-class computing platforms.
The contractor shall provide all deliverables as electronic files containing source code, preprocessing and postprocessing utilities, sample input decks, test case descriptions, and auxiliary files for illustrative cases to the Technical POC (David Lockard, NASA Langley Research Center, Building 1268, Room 1062C, Hampton VA 23681-2199). The period of performance extends from contract award through December 31, 2026, with this fixed-price effort including labor and domestic travel. Pre-requisites require the contractor to have previously demonstrated 4D simplicial grid generation and scalar convection equation solutions and documented the computational methodology prior to task order initiation. The enhanced HyperFlux code shall demonstrate residual convergence to machine-zero levels and solution accuracy validated through either the method of manufactured solutions or entropy error convergence assessment.

STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Objective/Requirements
The NASA Langley Research center requires the procurement of Geometric Integrity Hyperflux Software.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
LINE DESCRIPTION
1 HyperFlux Software Perpetual software license for the Hyperflux software including: the source code for HyperFlux, the code of the structured simplicial 4D grid generator, pre- and post-processing utilities, and documentation of solutions of the convection equation delivered by May 31, 2026
The source code for enhanced HyperFlux, the code of enhanced structured simplicial 4D grid generator, pre- and post-processing utilities, documentation of solutions of the Euler equations for a representative configuration delivered by August 31, 2026
Documentation of the iterative convergence and solution accuracy of the enhanced HyperFlux solver for inviscid-flow equations on 4D simplicial grids delivered by December 31, 2026
Scope of Work:
This task order shall support the delivery of an improved version of the previously demonstrated computational methodology for generating 4D structured simplicial grids for representative aerodynamic configurations and implementing second-order edge-based finite-volume discretizations of time-dependent, inviscid-flow equations on such grids. Specifically, the Contractor shall deliver the 4D structured simplicial-grid generation and edge-based solver code(s) with verified solid-wall, inflow, outflow, and farfield boundary conditions in the space-time domain. The codes shall include preprocessing and postprocessing utilities to set up the numerical simulation and analyze the results in terms of the design-order accuracy and iterative convergence. The documentation should be sufficient to allow the NASA personnel to set up, execute, and analyze the simulations, make appropriate modifications to the code if necessary, and assist with troubleshooting.
Objectives:
NASA’s research funded by the CIF-IRAD program aims to overcome the scalability barrier for large-scale, long-duration, time-accurate simulations and focuses on the development of a 4D unstructured-grid space-time CFD solver, FUN4D. Such unique computational capability shall dramatically accelerate scale-resolving unsteady-flow simulations on leadership-class computing platforms, enabling high-fidelity simulations for certification by analysis that are not possible today, e.g., maneuvering flight with dynamic active control or the full duration of aircraft take-off and landing.
The objective of this task order is to facilitate the development of FUN4D by using an enhanced version of the HyperFlux code and accompanying utilities to assist in the generation of 4D simplicial grids and the implementation of an edge-based discretization methodology for CFD equations in FUN4D. HyperFlux has demonstrated the ability to generate 4D structured simplicial grids, output the grids in the unstructured .ugrid format, and solve model time-dependent inviscid-flow equations discretized by a novel economical edge-based method. The enhanced HyperFlux code, the code for the generation of 4D structured simplicial grids, and auxiliary pre-processing and post-processing utilities shall be provided by the Contractor. NASA shall apply these codes for grid generation and CFD simulations for configurations of interest and may implement some modifications in HyperFlux to meet the requirements of specific applications and demonstrations.
Description of Work/Contractor Tasks:
The following pre-requisites should have been met before the beginning of this task order effort.
(i) The HyperFlux codes and pre/post-processing utilities have been used by the
Contractor in previous demonstrations of 4D simplicial grid generation and solution of a scalar convection equation in the space-time domain. These results shall have been documented to provide necessary confidence in the HyperFlux capabilities.
(ii) Given the target timeframe of FUN4D development, the Contractor must have documented the computational methodology used in HyperFlux and the associated utilities to be used as a guide during the NASA project.
The Contractor shall perform the following tasks:
4.1. Prepare the HyperFlux and pre/post-processing utility codes that can be used to generate 4D structured simplicial grids, discretize a time-dependent convection equation using an edge-based discretization, and solve the discrete equations. Iterative convergence shall be demonstrated by showing residual convergence to machine-zero levels. The accuracy of the 4D solutions shall be assessed by the method of manufactured solutions.
Deliver the perpetual use license, the HyperFlux code, the structured simplicial grid generation code, the pre/post-processing utilities, a guide for using the code, and documentation of the assessment of accuracy and iterative convergence. (May 31, 2026)
4.2. Enhance the HyperFlux capability for discretizing time-dependent inviscid-flow equations on 4D structured simplicial grids using an edge-based discretization and solving the discrete equations. Develop capabilities for generating 4D structured simplicial grids in the .ugrid format used by FUN4D and for reading such grids to compute HyperFlux inviscid-flow solutions. Using the developed capabilities, generate 4D grids and demonstrate inviscid-flow solutions for a representative aerodynamic configuration such as a wing. Iterative convergence shall be demonstrated by showing residual convergence to machine-zero levels. The accuracy of the 4D inviscid-flow solutions shall be assessed either by the method of manufactured solutions or by the convergence of the entropy error. Deliver the grid generation code, the enhanced HyperFlux solver, and documentation of inviscid-flow solutions for a representative aerodynamic configuration. (Aug. 31, 2026)
4.3. Assist in the generation of 4D simplicial grids and in the implementation of the edge-based discretization and iterative solution methodology in FUN4D.
Document the iterative convergence and solution accuracy of the enhanced HyperFlux solver for inviscid-flow equations on 4D simplicial grids. (Dec.
31, 2026)
Deliverables:
The Contractor shall deliver (1) a perpetual use license; (2) electronic files containing the HyperFlux source code, preprocessing and postprocessing utilities, and auxiliary files for illustrative cases; (3) a sample input deck; (4) a description of output data for the test cases; (5) documentation of the inviscid-flow solutions for a representative aerodynamic configuration; and (6) documentation of the iterative convergence and solution accuracy of HyperFlux. All items listed above shall be delivered to the Technical POC by the task order expiration date. The estimated period of performance for this Fixed Price effort is from the time of the award through 12/31/2026.
