Salient Characteristics

Commercial Availability Certification:

I have evaluated the commercial marketplace and determined that all of the salient characteristics documented below are available in products/services offered in the commercial marketplace.

Signature (typed name): Joseph Labukas Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) or Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) The Contractor shall provide one (1) PerkinElmer manufactured NexION 2000C Inductively Plasma – Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) with the following minimum Government specifications/requirements:

1. The instrument shall perform analysis of biological/algal/fungal cells, perform analysis of two (2) elements simultaneously for both ionic and particle analysis, automatically switch parameters and gases for the best method development, be upgradable to fully automated flow injection for atomic spectroscopy (FIAS) ICP-MS, have three (3) automated switching gas channels but be adaptable to use five (5) or more separate gasses. The ICP-MS shall include an all grounded three (3) cone system, no lens system, and no inside cleaning requirements.

2. Shall be able to achieve a high atomic mass resolution which requires a quadrupole configuration that consists of a minimum of three (3) quadrupole detectors that are able to deliver <1 atomic mass unit (amu) resolution and custom resolution to 0.3 amu. The quadrupole mass filter rods shall be made of a metal or alloy with a coefficient of thermal expansion less than 1.3 X 106 K-1 at 25 degrees Celsius for the best stability possible. For fast acquisition and high resolution of data the peak hopping speed (i.e. the maximum rate that the quadrupole can jump 160 amu without affecting precision) must be 1.6 amu/second. Similarly, for maximum speed of acquisition, the ICP-MS shall deliver at dwell times of 10 micro-seconds yet still allow for a dwell time of 0 seconds. Peak hopping settling times shall be less than 0.2 milliseconds.

3. Shall be a system with no optical lenses to eliminate the need for periodic lens cleaning resulting from the lenses attracting non-ionized particles.

4. Shall have a mode of operation where pure collision or reactive gasses or a mixture of collision/reactive gasses can be provided in order to eliminate interference in the data. The ability to mix at least three (3) gasses simultaneously during an ongoing experiment is necessary for this operation.

5. Shall have a minimum of three (3) cones with ground bias to eliminate attracting ions to the instrument cones.

6. The ion focusing system shall be an on end quadrupole deflector with a 90 degree bend of ions to allow for complete separation of ions from photons and neutrals.

7. Shall a minimum atomic mass range of 1-285 amu. The mass stability for Lithium and Magnesium shall be less than 0.05 amu over eight (8) hours of continuous operation.

8. The unit shall have a bench top design with a utility free rear, enabling it to be placed directly against the wall (some service procedures may require movement from wall) to meet laboratory space constraints.

9, Sample introduction shall be from the front of the instrument.

10. The system shall include all items and accessories for automated turn-key operations- (instrument, computer, chiller, auto sampler cables, software(s), etc...) to ensure rapid insertion of this new capability into the laboratory.

11. Laboratory power constraints require that the full system shall use single-phase power and remains in specification as laboratory temperature varies 10 to 35°C at up to 2°C per hour.

12. For efficiency of laboratory operations the ICP-MS system shall not require periodic cleaning of or replacement of the collision, reaction, or universal cells as well as the main filtering quadrupole by the user or manufacturer. Likewise, the load coil of the instrument shall not require active cooling or maintenance.

13. The instrument shall be installed, set-up, and commissioned by the manufacturer and include requisite training and demonstration.
