Question #1 - Is there any pictures that you can provide via email of the generator?

Question #2 - Would we be able to drive our service truck up to the generator or is it located inside of a building?

No a service truck cannot be driven up to the generator as it is located inside of the building.

Question #3 - We are just wondering if we need to add the charges for parts that require a core or not and if so, do we put it under the parts requiring a core or would you like them at the end of the estimate to see a total dollar value. Core charges are required on parts that are rebuildable, (i.e. heads, water pumps, injectors and other items). Core charges depend on the final inspection of Detroit, if the part is accepted you will not be charged for the core, if it is declined the core charge will be on the final invoice. Also we would like to inform you of the possibility of some parts being obsolete, in the past we have always been able to locate items to fill this area, but they may not be up to Detroit specifications. If there are any questions, please feel free to contact the office.

Yes, add the charges for parts that require a core and put it under the parts requiring a core.

Please put in your quote that if a core charge is not charged, then it will be deducted from the total price of the services.

Question #4 - In order to perform a complete engine rebuild some of those pieces might have to be brought back to our machine shop for rebuilding, ie. cylinder heads, crankshaft, etc. Will this be allowed?

Yes we anticipate that parts will be removed for machining and testing.

Question #5 - Once the engine is torn apart there might be other hidden issues that cannot be addressed just by visually seeing the engine. How will this be handled?

This will be a firm fixed price contract.

Question #6 - Will I be allowed to conduct a site visit before I quote this job?

It will just have to be coordinated with the institution. Please contact the institution at 361-786- 3576 and ask for the Facility Manager or General Foreman.

Question #7 - Are you asking for an inframe overhaul or an out of frame overhaul? Inframe overhaul means the engine is torn apart and rebuilt at your location pending machine work on several parts at our location. An out of frame overhaul means that we pull the whole engine, bring it back to our shop, rebuild it, then go back & install the engine as a complete unit.

Inframe overhaul with parts removal for testing and repairs allowed.

Question #8 - On an inframe overhaul the norm is not to rebuild injectors, turbos, oil coolers, etc.

Is that what we are quoting?? Just a basic inframe overhaul or are you requesting an inframe with rebuilt injectors, oil cooler, & turbos?

What all does the overhall include - Replacement or repair of any components to include, cylinder heads, head bolts, head bolt washers, all gaskets and washers, cylinder kits, rebuilt cylinder rods, wrist pin bolts, all spacers, rod bearings, main bearings, thrust bearings, main cap bolts, gasket sets (Overhaul), rebuilt injectors, all hoses, thermostat seals, thermostats, all springs, rebuilt blowers, blower gasket sets, rebuilt fresh water pump, all clamps, cam bearings, all jumper lines (long and short), turbo nuts, washers and bolts, all hoses, all valves, rebuilt fuel pump, fuel pump fork, blower shafts, all rings, springs and plugs, oil pump, oil pump drive gear, and rebuilt turbos. (as well as the other requirements listed in the Statement of Work)

Question #9 - Do we know the hours on this unit?

Total Hours of this unit - The hours on the generator as of 5/22/15 is 661.32

Question #10 - Is it enclosed in a garage or outside with no roof?

The unit is enclosed in a building

Question #11 - How much clearance does the generator have surrounding it?

How much access there is right around the generator. If an engine hoist or forklift is needed, is there enough room next to the generator in order to pull off the heads?

The door leading into the Generator room is a 36" door. On the left side of the generator there is 10'-10" clearance. In front of the generator there is 6' clearance and right side 7'-10" clearance.

There are two fuel lines running across the side clearances. A fork lift would be out of the question but an engine hoist is possible.
