1 Situation.
The 38th Commandant’s Planning Guidance (CPG) explains that the Marine Corps has been and remains the Nation’s premier naval expeditionary force-in-readiness. The CPG further states that the Marine Corps will be trained and equipped as a naval expeditionary force-in-readiness and prepared to operate inside actively contested maritime spaces in support of fleet operations. The
Marine Corps Underwater Egress Trainer (UET) philosophy is to make an uncomfortable situation familiar so that the Marine will react in a manner that will increase their survivability during an actual egress event occurring during Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) training, a deployment and/or during combat. All training must meet UET requirements, and all training must prepare Marines and other authorized personnel to perform complex and stressful survival tasks during situations they may encounter in the battle space.
Marine Corps Message, 092116Z Apr 21, “REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RESUMPTION OF
AAV WATER OPERATIONS” directs that all who will embark within or in operation of an amphibious vehicles must be UET “certified”, so the attendance of non-unit affiliated civilians, contractor and government employees, will increase, with new requirements for recording and tracking by individual trained, both uniformed and civilian.
1.1 Background
Marine Corps UET systems provide training necessary to safely egress from a submerged, rolled over or sinking aircraft or waterborne vehicle. The UET includes the Shallow Water Egress
Trainer (SWET), Modular Amphibious Egress Trainer (MAET) and the Submerged Vehicle
Egress Trainer (SVET). Training requirements are determined by expected missions, training and readiness programs focus on training to successfully accomplish Marine Air-Ground Task Force
