About this file

This document outlines specifications for potentiostats and Faraday cages required under a federal contract opportunity with the Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation. The specifications require potentiostats capable of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy with a frequency range of 10 microHertz to 5 megaHertz and impedance accuracy of less than 1%. The system must be capable of performing measurements with 11 current ranges from 600 milliamps to 60 picoamps using a decade sequence without additional modules. Other key requirements include high voltage and current resolution, low noise levels, ability to perform 2, 3, 4, or 5 terminal measurements while electrically isolated from earth ground, simultaneous data acquisition from 3 channels, computer control of up to 16 potentiostats from one computer, necessary cables and cell components, and calibration equipment. The Faraday cage must include a glass door and the entire system must be plug-and-play and usable for production work without additional setup modifications. A two-year warranty and lifetime technical support must be provided.

Specifications

a) Potentiostat and dedicated software:

i) EIS frequency range of 10 microHertz to 5 megaHertz with an impedance accuracy of less than 1%.

ii) Eleven current ranges from 600 milliamps to 60 picoamps using a decade sequence and no additional modules

iii) Voltage resolution of 1 microVolts and current resolution of 20 attoamps (2.0 x 10-17 amps).

iv) Specified noise is 2 microVolts RMS or less.

v) Cable of performing 2, 3, 4, or 5 terminal measurements.

vi) Electrically isolated from Earth ground for measurements on grounded samples.

vii) Simultaneously data acquisition from 3 independent channels and display measured current and voltage during the experiment.

viii) Capable of performing EIS measurements in potentiostatic, galvanostatic, and zero resistance ammeter modes.

ix) Hardware and software that is computer controlled and able to run on Microsoft operating system, Windows 10 or better.

x) The potentiostat must be engineered so one computer can control up to 16 potentiostats.

b) Power cord and cable to connect the computer to the potentiostat module.

c) Full electrochemical paint test cell set-up including glass cell, o-ring, base, clamp, and potentiostat cell cable.

d) Saturated calomel reference electrode and platinum wire counter electrode, plus one spare of each.

e) Calibration cell.

f) Instrument manual.

g) All hardware and software proposed for this project would need to be capable of running in an air-gapped environment (no internet connectivity). Therefore, all system updates need to be capable of being performed through means other than network connectivity.

h) Faraday shield/cage with glass door.

The system shall be plug-and-play and usable once setup. No additional modifications prior to production level work should be required. The system shall be provided with up-to-date equipment calibration documentation and shall be manufactured with all new parts.

The system shall include at least a two-year warranty provided by the supplier including full experimental set-up, including hardware/software, cell cables, test cell, electrodes, calibration cell, and Faraday cage as well as shipping, training, and lifetime technical support.
