OVERHAUL DESCRIPTION
FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY
ITEM NAME GENERATOR,ALTERNATING CURRENT
STOCK NUMBER 6115-01-414-7239
PART NUMBER 243226LA
USED ON 225 WLB
Items as received by the contractor must be complete and of the proper cited part number. Discrepancies shall be reported to the Coast Guard Contracting Officer.
OVERHAUL REQUIREMENTS:
1. SCOPE
1.1 Intent. This work item describes the requirements for the Contractor to rewind the removed Thruster Generator ashore in a suitable repair facility.
1.2 Government-furnished property.
None.
2. REFERENCES
COAST GUARD DRAWINGS
None.
COAST GUARD PUBLICATIONS
Surface Forces Logistics Center Standard Specification (SFLC Std Spec) 3101, 2022, Overhaul AC Synchronous Machines
OTHER REFERENCES
None.
3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 General. Rewind the Thruster Generator ashore in a suitable repair facility in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 3101. Generator data is shown in Table 1 below. Leroy Somer is the successor to the original equipment manufacturer and the updated technical manual included in Section 4 below takes precedence over any conflicting information in CG Tech Pub 3556.
3.2 Shipping. The Government will ship the crated generator to and from the overhaul facility.
3.3 Initial inspection. Perform the initial inspection and tests of section
3.3 of SFLC Std Spec 3101.
3.4 Shop work. Perform the shop work appendices of SFLC Std Spec 3101 as follows:
3.4.1 Reconditioning. The generator internals are heavily caked with iron blast grit which appears to be strongly attracted to magnetized steel components in the machine. The next rewind is not scheduled until 2024.
Given the heavy contamination and the age of the existing insulation (approaching 16 years), assume that rewinding will be required for bidding purposes. In the event that the shop inspection and tests support reconditioning as the favored action, submit a CFR. If authorized by change request, perform reconditioning per Appendix B in lieu of rewinding; the Government shall receive a credit for the rewinding work not performed.
3.4.2 Rewinding. Perform rewinding per Appendix C. Self-locking nylon ties or other techniques that deform or cut the insulation shall not be used to bundle lead wires. Renew all lead wire anti-chafing channel and install additional material, as needed, to properly support and prevent chafing of internal wiring.
3.4.3 Miscellaneous repairs.
3.4.3.1 Renew all bearings and resistance temperature detectors. Grease new bearings using Chevron SRI grease, National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) #2 grade. Fill each bearing cavity with grease to 40%-50% of capacity. Position the bearing seals so that the outside seal prevents water entry into the bearing chamber and the inside seal prevents grease from entering the generator internals.
3.4.3.2 None of the other miscellaneous repairs of Appendix D are expected to be needed, but may become the subject of a changed order if deficiencies are found during the initial inspection. When authorized, such repair shall be performed in accordance with the applicable Appendix D section listed in Table 2 of SFLC Std Spec 3101.
3.5 Balancing. Dynamically balance the rotor assembly per Section 3.4.4 of SFLC Std Spec 3101.
3.6 Reassembly. Reassemble the machine per Section 3.4.5 of SFLC Std Spec 3101.
3.7 Shop acceptance testing. Accomplish the shop acceptance tests of Section 3.5 of SFLC Std Spec 3101.
3.8 Final assembly. Complete reassembly work per Section 3.6 of SFLC Std Spec 3101.
3.9 Packaging. Package the reassembled machine per Section 3.7 of SFLC Std Spec 3101 for transport and long term warehouse storage.
