Performance Work Statement

Provide mechanical properties testing to support weld training & qualification per the below requirements:

1. Perform a Drop Weight Test on six (6) specimens per ASTM E208. Test material to be

ASTM A508 Gr4N, Class 3 and MIL‐S‐16216. Test temperature to be ‐110 deg. F.

Approximate specimen dimension to be per ASTM E208. Machine and test six (6) standard P‐2 or P‐3 drop weight specimens from customer (PNS) supplied material. Cost to include notching.

2. Perform a Tensile (Transverse) Test on two (2) specimens per AWS B4.0 & ASTM E8.

Test material to be MIL‐100S‐1 Wire. Test temperature to be room temperature.

Approximate specimen dimension to be approximately 5”x .75” dia. Machine and test two (2) standard round (transverse) tensile specimens from customer supplied material.

Report Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS), Yield Strength (YS), Percent Elongation (%EL), and Percent Reduction of Area (%RA).

3. Perform a Tensile (All Weld) Test on two (2) specimens per AWS B4.0 & ASTM E8. Test material to be MIL‐100S‐1 Wire. Test temperature to be room temperature.

Approximate specimen dimension to be approximately 5”x .50” dia. Machine and test two (2) standard round tensile specimens from customer supplied material. Report UTS, YS, %EL, and %RA.

4. Perform Transverse Side Bend Test on three (3) specimens per AWS B4.0. Test material to be ASTM A508 Gr4N, Class 3 and MIL‐S‐16216. Test temperature to be room temperature. Approximate specimen dimension to be approximately 6” x 1.5” x 1”.

Machine and test three (3) side bend specimens from customer supplied material.

Specimens shall be transverse orientation across the weld.

5. Perform Charpy V‐Notch Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) Test on five (5) specimens per ASTM

E23 and NAVSEA S9074‐AQ‐GIB‐010/248, Fig 24. Test material to be ASTM A508 Gr4N, Class 3 and MIL‐100S‐1 Wire. Test temperature to be ‐20 deg. F. Approximate specimen dimension to be approximately 2.165” x .394” x .394”. Machine and test five (5) charpy v‐notch (HAZ) impact specimens from customer supplied material. Digital photographs of root, notch, and the etched HAZ per NAVSEA S9074‐AQ‐GIB‐010/248.

6. Perform Charpy V‐Notch (Base Material) Test on five (5) specimens per ASTM E23. Test material to be ASTM A508 Gr4N, Class 3. Test temperature to be ‐20 deg. F.

Approximate specimen dimension to be approximately 2.165” x .394” x .394”. Machine and test five (5) charpy v‐notch impact specimens from customer supplied material.

Only of ASTM A508 material.

7. Perform Charpy V‐Notch (Weld) Test on five (5) specimens per ASTM E23. Test material to be ASTM A508 Gr4N, Class 3 and MIL‐S‐16216 and MIL‐100S‐1 Wire. Test temperature to be ‐50 deg. F. Approximate specimen dimension to be approximately

2.165” x .394” x .394”. Machine and test five (5) charpy v‐notch impact specimens from customer supplied material. Lateral Expansion to be reported.

8. Include an additional line in cost estimate to include any non‐reoccurring engineering

(NRE) consisting of: engineering support, final report documenting test findings, digital photographs, and weld etch costs, etc.

9. The PNSY technical Point of Contact (POC) in

10. The vendor shall document and provide all test results from the above requirements in a single report to be provided to PNS Weld Engineering upon completion. A Certificate of

Conformance (CoC) is not required.
