About this file

This is a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) announcement from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) for full-scale hybrid effectiveness-implementation trials of mental health interventions (PAR-25-177). The funding supports clinical trials through R01 grants to test therapeutic and preventive interventions in community settings, as well as trials evaluating patient, provider, organizational, or systems-level services interventions to improve mental health services access, quality, and outcomes.

The NOFO is open to a wide range of applicants including higher education institutions, nonprofits, businesses, tribal organizations, and government entities. Funded through the Mental Health Research Grants program (CFDA 93.242), trials must address significant problems with practice-informing potential, be adequately powered with pilot data-supported hypotheses, and examine intervention mechanisms and moderators of effects. The collaborative R01 mechanism specifically supports multisite trials needed for larger or more diverse samples. All proposals must follow NIMH's experimental therapeutics approach by explicitly addressing how interventions engage their presumed underlying mechanisms of action.
