About this file
This document is a detailed state contract bid specification for dump body equipment issued by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), specifically contract number 026A-26. The specification covers multiple types of dump body configurations from a vendor (identified as Galion Godwin Truck Body LLC), including single and tandem axle dump bodies made of mild steel and stainless steel, as well as hooklift dump body variants. The document provides comprehensive technical specifications, compliance requirements, and pricing details for different dump body lengths and configurations.
The contract includes six distinct sections covering pricing for different dump body types: mild steel single axle (9-11 ft), stainless steel single axle (9-11 ft), mild steel tandem axle (13-15 ft), stainless steel tandem axle (13-15 ft), stainless steel single axle hooklift (11 ft), and stainless steel tandem axle hooklift (13-15 ft). Unit prices range from $13,849 for a 9 ft mild steel single axle dump body to $32,884 for a 15 ft stainless steel tandem axle dump body. The contract specifies a 180-calendar-day delivery requirement, includes a 30-month warranty, and requires a prototype unit for inspection. Some line items have no bid, indicating potential limitations in vendor capabilities or interest. The specification includes detailed technical requirements for body construction, materials, dimensions, paint, and other critical specifications.

| 17Bc. | The bottom of the catwalk shall be 12.7 mm (½") above where the rub rail meets the bed wall. | X | |
| 17Bd. | The catwalk will be spaced 25.4 mm (1") away from the bed wall. | X | |
| 17Be. | Catwalk shall be bolted to the dump body rub rails in such a way that the catwalks may be easily removed as one piece. | X | |
| 17Bf. | Catwalk will be made out of 304 or 201 stainless steel. . | X | |
| 17Bg. | Catwalks will not be painted. | X | |
| 17Bh. | Catwalks will be mounted to the dump body before delivery. (NOT shipped loose) | X | |
| 18B. | Three (3) grab handles shall be positioned on the bed of the truck approximately 356mm (14") above the catwalk. Two (2) will be positioned directly over the rear axle of the tandem axles on both sides of the bed approximately 406 mm (16") from the front of the rear corner post. One (1) will be positioned 228 mm (9") back on the 3962 mm (13ft) bed and 838 mm (33") back on the 4572 mm (15ft) bed from the front of the bed on the passenger side. These handles will be 19mm (3/4") diameter steel that extends 95.3 mm (3-3/4") from the bed and will be approximately 254 mm (10") wide. (See Figure 8) | X | |
| 19B. | Four hangers for lifting the bed will be positioned inside the truck bed to serve as points for lifting the bed. They will be constructed in such a way that they can swing down against the inside of the bed when not in use but will swing up when being employed. Must be sufficient rating to lift the dump body. These hangers are to be roughly 203 mm (8") from the front and back of the bed and approximately 76 mm (3") from the top of the bed. | X | |
| 20B. | All seams will be continuous welding. (stitch/spot welding is not acceptable) | X | |
| C. TAILGATE: | |||
| 1C. | Overshot type | ||
| 2C. | Boxed perimeter bracing, to support tail gate opening. Material to be the same material as gate. | X | |
| 3Ca. | Door opening approx. 381 x 508 mm (15" x 20") (Height x Width), heavy duty hardware of such design to hold the gate flush against end of body. | X | |
| 3Cb. | Door will be AR400 Steel, 8 gauge. | X | |
| 3Cc. | All assembly components will be mild steel. | X | |
| 3Cd. | Door will have a 90 degree flanged at the top to provide sufficient reinforcement to prevent any deformation. | X | |
| 4C. | Door opening approx. 380 mm (15") x 500 mm (20") (Height x Width), located in the center of the tailgate. Hardware will be of such design to hold the gate flush against end of body. Supported with four bearing blocks with grease fittings, tailgate must be capable of using a handle design with a snap lock feature that extends to both sides of outer tailgate frame. Brackets will be located on the left and right sides of the coal door in such a way that the door will be opened by two adjustable linkage rods of forged design with ACME or SAE threads. Handle will be supplied and installed. (See Figure 6) | X | |
| 5C. | Lower tailgate hook to be overshot type and shall have 10 mm (3/8") outer latch plates (two per side). Lower hardware backing plates to be 7 mm (1/4") steel and fully welded into the rear corner post. | X | |
| 6C. | Chain brackets shall be located on each side of the tailgate at the top and bottom. | X | |
| 7C. | Tailgate will require a prop that will be used to keep the tailgate open while the dump body is in the lowered position. Tailgate prop to be welded to the outer edge of rear post, as shown from side view of prop. The tailgate prop is to be made to the specifications listed in figure 12. Prop assembly will be high tensile steel welded to bed. (See Figure 12) | X | |
| 8C. | Tailgate must have I.D. No. matching the last four digits of the body Serial No. stamped on the side. | X | |
| 9C. | Tailgate latch will be air operated from the cab with a valve located in cab. A Springville Mfg. Co. Cylinder model SB32X8-CM&P-SP or approved equal will be mounted at the rear of the bed before delivery. All other components will be supplied by the Ohio Department of Transportation. | X | |
| 10C. | Tailgate chains must be of sufficient length to support tailgate in horizontal position. | X | |
| 11C. | Must provide one hanger sufficient for lifting the tailgate. This will be positioned in the center of gate at the top for easy lifting access. It should be constructed in such a way that it can swing down against the inside of the bed when not in use but will swing up when being employed. | X |
