Fan Belt Adiustment
The Supply Fan belts must be inspected periodically to as-sure proper unil operation-
Beplacernent is necessary il the belts appear frayed or worn Unrts with dual beits requrre a matched set ol bells lo ensure equal belt length. When inslalling new belts. do not stretch lhem over the sheaves; instead. loosen the adjustable mo-tor-mountrng base.
Once lhe new bells are installed, adjust the beJl tension us-ing a Browning or Gates tensron gauge (or equivalent) illus-trated in Figure 16.
1. To determine the appropriate belt deliection:
a. N4easure the center-to-center dislance. in inches, between lhe fan sheave and the motor sheave.
b. Divide the distance measured in Step 1a by 64;the resulling value represents the amounl ol belt delleclion for the proper belt tension.
2. Set the arge O-ring on lhe belt tension gauge at lhe detlection value determined in Step 1b.
3. Sel the small O-ring al zero on the lorce scale of the qauge.
4. Place lhe large end oi the gauge on the beit al the center ol the belt span. Depress the gauge plunger until the large O'ring is even with lhe of the second belt or even with a straightedge placed across lhe sheaves.
5. Remove the tension gauge from the beLt. Notice that the smail O-ring now indicates a value other than zero on lhe
Service & Maintenance force scale. Thrs value represents the iorce (in pounds) requrred to deflect the belt(s) the proper distance when properly adjusted.
6. Compare the lorce scale reading in slep 5 with the appro-pnale "lorce" value in Figure 17. lf the lorce reading rs outslde of the listed range ior the type of belts used, eilher readjust the belt tension or contact a qualilied service rep-resentative.
Figure 16 Typical Belt Tension Gauge

Note: The aclual belt detlection force must not exceed the maximum value shown in Fi9urc 17
7. Flecheck the new bell's tension at least twice during lhe ,irst 2 to 3 days ol operation. Fleadiust the belt tension as necessary lo correcl for any stretching that may have oc-curred. Unlil lhe new belis are "run in', lhe belt tension will decrease rapldly as they slretch.
