Procurement of Opt-E W2-AM Autocollimator and Autostigmatic microscope Statement of Work and Background Text 14 Feb 2017

Statement of work:

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) builds spacecraft and optical instrument for Earth, space science, and astronomy applications. For many of the components and subsystems of these assemblies, the alignment tolerances with respect to the spacecraft/instrument coordinate system are tight (measured in arcseconds and arcminutes). Moreover, even after the systems are aligned, the optical wavefronts of these still need to be measured. Currently GSFC uses interferometers, which have high sensitivity and accuracy for wavefront measurement. These instruments are often used for the final qualification of an optical system, however due to their size, they are not always the most convenient tool for alignment. An alternative tool for alignment is the point source microscope (PSM) which provides real-time feedback but does not quantify the wavefront of the system. The new and improved version of the PSM is the Autocollimator and Autostigmatic microscope (W2-AM). This instrument is small, portable and is commonly used for alignment and evaluation applications in the aerospace industry.

GSFC currently relies on a PSM that is currently shared among various projects. Additionally, this shared PSM does not have the wavefront evaluation capability and field of view (FOV) of the W2-AM.

Thus, GSFC requires and Autocollimator and Autostigmatic microscope (W2-AM) with wavefront testing capabilities and a wide FOV. This procurement is for one (1) W2-AM, which includes in the body of the instrument a red LED (~635 nm) with a 25.4 mm diameter and 100 mm effective focal length doublet collimating lens, light source and cable. It also includes a Nikon 10x, NA 0.30 objective; a ~14 μm pinhole; a closed loop piezo stage and controller with an additional 100micron travel; a Point Grey CM3-U3-31S4M; a Dell E5570 notebook computer (i5 with HD, 1920 x 1080 display or similar); and finally, phase retrieval software optical alignment.
