A sample batch is needed.

Sample batch will be ser. 3 vol. 3 (1870).

General notes Section headings referenced in this Journal Style Guide are not exhaustive.

Headings similar to those specified here should be handled as described in this document (e.g., "Papers" and "Original Papers").

TOCs may include a section titled “Library.” Disregard this section—these articles are not included in the bound volumes.

o vol. 2, no. 4 (1842), TOC.

o In some issues this section is not labeled, but it’s always at the beginning of the TOC and usually refers to page numbers not found in the issue.

In the example below, “Professor Baume’s Work on First Dentition” should be ignored.

Vol. 2, no. 2 (1841), TOC.

News sheet at the end of vol. 10 (1849) o Appears at the end of vol. 10 (1849).

o Place with new ser. vol. 1, no. 1 (1850).

o Treat p. 1-4 as admin, p. 5-20 as advertisement o Page size is larger than the rest of the volume for these pages. Image size should reflect page size.

In vol. 2 (1841-42) the title in the source is “The American Journal and Library of Dental Science.” Disregard this—the title for the entire journal run is “American Journal of Dental Science.”

Filler appears throughout as short articles or messages from the editors that aren’t in the TOC.

o “Quackery,” vol. 8, no. 2 (1848), 183.

Corrections appear throughout.

o Vol. 4, no. 3 (1843), p. 144.

Continuation articles appear throughout o “A Course of Lectures on Dental Physiology and Surgery,” vol. 8, no. 1

(1847), p. 33-54.

Plates: plates should be placed with the article they are facing, with the below exceptions:

o Vol. 3 (1842-43): plate between p. 80-81: place with “Introductory

Address,” vol. 3, no. 1 (1842), p. 1-19.

o New ser. vol. 10 (1860): the four plates at the beginning of the volume before the title page:

place with: “Magitot on the Development and Structure of the

Human Teeth,” new ser. vol. 9, no. 4 (1859), p. 449-490. Place plates after p. 490. Note: this is a different volume.

***NOTES***

Note for NLM Reviewers regarding the section titled “Library”

“Library” This section consisted of articles and book chapters reprinted in full and included with each issue, with the idea that they would be separated and bound separately by subscribers. There’s an explanation of this in vol. 1 no. 1 (1839), p. 5. This material is not present in NLM’s bound volumes, with the following exception:

vol. 8, no. 3 (1848), has the second half (p. 41-128) of “An Essay on the Structure and Formation of the Teeth in Man and Various Animals.” The first half is in no. 2 (see TOCs).

This material should not be scanned.

File details come from the government source that posted it.
