Appendix 4 – Upload Screen NTP-ExtrousCyclingAlgorithm.xlsx input choices: P, E, M, D, NC, ND

NC = too few cells; ND = cannot determine stage is the female cycling?

starting with one of (P,E,M,D) does female return to initial stage? yes => cycling is observation period between 12 and 16 days?

yes => normal cycling call requires 2 cycles is the observation period 21 days?

yes => normal cycling call requires 3 cycles does the animal have only NC/ND between start and return? Yes => no cycling call is the cycle normal? normal length of each stage

RAT MOUSE

P 8H-12H 12H-2D

E 12H-2D 12H-3D

M 23H 21H-2D

D 2D 57H-3D

Yes = falls within specified ranges

Prolonged = stage is longer than normal range but animal proceeds to next stage

Persistent = stage is longer than normal and animal does not proceed to next stage cycle length = day after initial stage to first day of return to that stage EXAMPLE: EEMMDDE

..12345 qualitative:

cycle is regular: female has cycles with equal length =/- 1 day mean cycle length for female = average of cycle lengths for each female

Appendix 4 – Upload Screen NTP-ExtrousCyclingAlgorithm.xlsx cycle is irregular: female has cycles with different lengths mean cycle length for dose group = mean of individual mean cycle lengths, plus St Dev.
