PURCHASE DESCRIPTION

1. Statement of Need and Purpose:

The National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), Office of Acquisition (OA) has a requirement for a customized system of radiotranslucent high performance polymer chambers to fit the non-human primate skull and permit chronic and simultaneous neuronal recordings from multiple brain regions. Using permanently implanted electrodes that can be individually adjusted is critical to the scientific goals of this project, which are to understand how activity across brain regions mediates the ability of drug-associated cues to engage cognitive resources.

2. Background Information and Objective:

The mission of the Intramural Research Program (IRP) of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is to conduct state-of-the-art research on basic mechanisms that underlie drug abuse and addiction, and to develop new methods for the treatment of drug abuse and addiction. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) seeks the in-house capability to provide design and manufacturing of a customized system of radiotranslucent high performance polymer chambers to fit the non-human primate skull and permit chronic and simultaneous neuronal recordings from multiple brain regions. This is a sealed system that reduces the risk of infections while allowing us to independently collect data from multiple channels over time. The drive systems must position up 220 recording electrodes per subject into multiple brain regions.

3. Generic Name of Product:

Chronic Neural Recording Chamber
