STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Background
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has had an intramural research program involving positron emission tomography (PET) since 1980. The group of investigators using PET at
NIH includes researchers from the PET and Nuclear Medicine Departments in the Clinical
Center and investigators in NIA, NIMH, NINDS, NIDDK, NIAAA, NHLBI, NCI, NIDR, and NIDCD. Operational PET scanners are essential to the missions of these institutes to support research into many different disease conditions. The PET Department, as a part of the Clinical Center, has as its mission the provision and maintenance of state-of-the-art scanning equipment for use by and in collaboration with the institute scientists.
2. Objectives
The government objective is to obtain (subject contract shall cover) maintenance, support, and emergency servicing of a Siemens ECAT HRRT PET scanners (referred to as HRRT) in the PET Department of the NIH Clinical Center. The HRRT was acquired in 2004.
Included with the HRRT is a patient bed supplied by Agile Engineering (Knoxville, TN).
The scanner is used in the research projects of many institutes at the NIH to study a variety of physiological processes in health and disease. A maintanence contract will be needed (In order) to maintain the current level of operation (8:00am to 5:00pm daily). Included in this contract will be an annual preventive maintenance visit, emergency servicing, spare parts, hardware, software and firmware upgrades and support.
