About this file
This document summarizes a federal grant opportunity for promoting civility in the correctional workplace. The grant opportunity presentation materials discuss the causes and negative effects of workplace incivility, such as stress, low morale, and decreased productivity. The materials provide examples of civil and uncivil behaviors, and recommend practices for cultivating civility, such as communicating expectations, conflict resolution training, and advocating for respectful treatment of all employees. The related federal grant opportunity is offered through the Department of Justice Bureau of Prisons under the Corrections Training and Staff Development program. The grant seeks proposals to help correctional leaders address workplace incivility and build psychologically safe environments where staff are respected and able to thrive. Selected applicants would receive a cooperative agreement to implement activities promoting civility in their correctional workplaces.
