Specifications Tunable Laser System
BACKGROUND:
The Ion Storage Group within the Time & Frequency Division of the Physical Measurement Laboratory performs quantum information and simulation experiments with a variety of different trapped atomic ion species. These experiments require many different sorts of lasers, across a broad range of wavelengths.
PURPOSE:
Laser light is used for cooling as well as state preparation, manipulation and detection. As part of our work we are investigating different atomic and molecular species, and for this we would like to purchase a narrow linewidth broadly tunable laser source. Our needs are in the near infrared and visible regions of the optical spectrum.
DELIVERABLES:
A narrow line-width, near infrared, tunable laser source with integrated second harmonic generation.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
Continuous-wave, TEM00 transverse mode, and single longitudinal mode. A near infrared source with integrated second harmonic generation.
Near infrared -
• Wavelength tuning 725 nm to 975 nm
• Output power > 1.00 W*
• Spatial mode quality, M2 < 1.1
• Absolute spectral linewidth < 100 kHz, integrated over 100 micro seconds
• Sealed enclosure to enable suppression of intra-cavity absorption by atmospheric gases (by purging or desiccant). Remote (automated) wavelength tuning with no need to exchange optical components.
• Amplitude noise < 0.1% rms
• Frequency scan rate up to 100 GHz/s
Second harmonic generation -
• 365 nm to 485 nm
• SHG conversion efficiency > 35% with > 1 W fundamental input
• Amplitude noise < 0.2% rms
• Frequency stabilized to near infrared source
• No need to exchange mirrors
* If needed, we have an existing 10 W Coherent Verdi V10 laser that is available to pump a titanium sapphire laser.
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
All specifications listed above are critical. We understand that this combination of requirements is difficult to achieve and it is therefore important that the vendor has a proven track record of producing devices that meet the specifications.
DELIVERABLE SCHEDULE:
The contractor shall deliver no later than ten (10) weeks after receipt of order.
INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE:
The acceptable equipment shall meet all technical specifications. Testing will be done within 2 weeks of delivery.
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Firm fixed price
