SPECIFICATIONS
Gold Pellets for Evaporation
BACKGROUND:
The National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Boulder Microfabrication Facility (BMF), operated by the Microfabrication Group in the Quantum Electromagnetics Division, provides NIST-Boulder staff with the capability to fabricate state of the art microelectronic devices. These devices are created through the deposition and etching of various thin metallic and insulating films to produce the designed structures. A key metallic film for this process is thin layers of gold, usually deposited by the vacuum evaporation of high purity gold. The BMF typically consumes approximately one (1) kilogram of gold per year to make these thin films.
PURPOSE:
The Microfabrication Group in the Quantum Electromagnetics Division uses very high purity Gold pellets within the evaporation systems in the Boulder Microfabrication Facility to produce thin films of gold for various microelectronic circuit applications such as wiring, contact pads, and resistors. Our current stock of gold pellets is running low and we require more to continue the fabrication processes within the clean room.
DELIVERABLES:
High Purity Gold Pellets (99.999% pure) quantity: 1000 grams (32.15 troy ounces)
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
• Quantity: 1000 grams (32.15 troy ounces) High Purity Gold Pellets (99.999% pure)
• Overall purity: 99.999% (metals basis). Shipment must include an analysis of purity indicating the major contaminants.
• Pellets to be sized so that each piece weighs approximately 1 gram. Our preferred shape/size is rods 0.125 inches in diameter and 0.25 inches long, but other shapes are allowed provided the weight per piece remains approximately 1 gram. Vendor must specify the shape and size they will be providing.
• Pellets must be cleaned after fabrication (for example by etching) to remove any contamination introduced during the pellet fabrication process.
• Vendor is responsible for shipping the product to NIST.
DELIVAERABLE SCHEDULE:
3 weeks ARO
INSPECTION and ACCEPTANCE:
SPECIFICATIONS
Gold Pellets for Evaporation
The vendor must provide an analysis of impurities with the delivery of the product. The Microfabrication Facility Group (687.10) will physically inspect the gold pellets to confirm they comply with the shape and size given in the specifications. Final acceptance will be determined within 15 calendar days of delivery.
