About this file
This document is a Requirements / Specification Document for a Flexible High-Density Microwave Transmission Line assembly needed for a 4K cryostat being constructed. The requirements include a 16-channel flex-based transmission line assembly, with SMA connectors on both the 300K room temperature and 4K interfaces, a 55cm minimum length, 50ohm nominal impedance, 10GHz nominal bandwidth, -15dB transmission line loss, and -30dB crosstalk. The assembly must be a commercial product, able to connect to the 50K thermal stage. The related federal contract opportunity is a Sources Sought notice for this requirement, with a solicitation number of NB672060-24-01856. The document provides details on shipping, inspection, acceptance, training, warranty, calibration, maintenance, and travel requirements. No Government Furnished Material/Equipment is identified.

Requirements / Specification Document
TITLE: Flexible High-Density Microwave Transmission Line for 4K Cryostat
Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group:
Communications Technology Laboratory RF Technology Division Superconductive Electronics Group (672.06)
General Statement of Need:
A specialized 4 Kelvin cryostat we are constructing requires a set of flex-based high-density transmission lines with 16 channels. The flex-based architecture is required to minimize the thermal load to the 50 K and 4 K stages of our cryocooler, while simultaneously providing a highly reliable microwave path from dc to 10 GHz with acceptable properties for transmission line loss, and crosstalk between lines.
Item Specifications and Quantities:
Item 1: 16 channel miniature microwave transmission line assembly Quantity: 1 Specifications: 1.1 The assembly must contain 16 independent microwave transmission lines, constructed utilizing a flex-based architecture for use in a cryocooled cryogenic system with a 50K first stage, and a 4K second stage.
1.2 The 16 connectors on the room temperature 300K interface
must be SMA, and the 16 connectors on the cold 4K interface must be SMA suitable for reliable operation at 4K.
1.3 The room temperature SMA connector module must be
mounted on an integrated KF-40 vacuum flange (or KF-25), that can bolt directly onto an aluminum baseplate KF-40 port in the typical configuration.
1.4 55 cm is the minimum transmission line length, measured from the vacuum side of the room temperature KF-40 flange (or KF-25) to the 4K interface module.
1.5 The nominal characteristic impedance of each transmission line is 50 ohms at operating temperature.
1.6 The nominal bandwidth is 10 GHz at operating temperature, or better.
1.7 The nominal transmission line loss on each channel (S21) at operating temperature is -15 dB, or better.
1.8 The nominal crosstalk between transmission lines is -30 dB at operating temperature, or better.
1.9 The flex transmission lines must be able to be thermally
connected to the 50K stage, at a user selectable location somewhere in the middle of the flex-based assembly.
1.10 This assembly must be a commercial product, complete and fully-developed from the 300K SMA connectors thru to the 4K SMA interface.
