5-2-17 Vendor Questions and Responses – Attachment #3

Question1: -What kind of storage do the physical systems use? Internal/Direct attached storage? Shared array-based storage?

Response1: Shared array-based storage Question2: -Do they boot from this storage as well, or is the OS on a different type of storage?

Response2: OS is on a different type of Storage Question3: Does the OS need to be backed up as well?

Response3: No.

Question4: Does the "up-to" 1PB of data being backed-up represent the total amount of existing data residing on production storage, that would be captured in 1 full backup of all hosts?

RESPONSE: YES

Question: If the answer to question #1 is yes, then 162TB of NAS storage listed in the Q&A would not be sufficient to store this data. Should the solution proposed include all necessary server, storage, switches, and tape hardware to support the stated requirements or will the government furnish the required hardware? If partial, please detail what is needed and what is not. Also detail provided hardware so bidders can ensure compatibility.

RESPONSE: Only looking for SW solution to be able to back up - up to 1PB of data - not looking for HW -

Question: Does the 1PB of data being backed-up correspond to the 20 virtual machines, 20 physical servers, and 40 workstations listed in the Q&A, or are those numbers expected to grow significantly as the amount of data backed-up approaches 1PB? If growth is expected, what would the projected numbers of virtual machines, physical servers, and workstations be at the 1PB mark?

RESPONSE: YES, and no growth.

Question: What is the retention time for backup data on residing on disk? 30-90 days is typical and can we assume tape for long-term and off-site copies?

RESPONSE: YES - 30-90 days...YES to tape for long term and off site copies

Question: Does the desired "scale up" size of the NAS need to support 3PB of usable capacity within a single storage controller/HA pair? Or can max capacity be achieved by implementing a multi-node cluster?

RESPONSE: This is a software only buy...the intent is for capacity of SW to scale up to 3PB using a single storage controller/HA pair

Question: What NAS protocols are required? CIFS or NFS? Both?

RESPONSE: Both.

Question: What is the speed of network connectivity between the physical & virtual servers to the NAS storage? 1Gb or 10GB? How many ports of each are available?

RESPONSE: 10GB - 1 port available

Question: What is the distance between the anticipated NAS storage and the network switching for connectivity?

RESPONSE: 20 feet - no hops

Question: Are specific transceivers required to connect to the network? If yes, please provide details.

RESPONSE: YES - Arista and Brocade - Make and model avail in sep cor

Question: What if any NAS storage features should be made available? Deduplication, compression, compaction, snapshots, remote-mirroring, thin provisioning, etc?

RESPONSE: Not looking for HW, looking for SW only that can support deduplication and compression

Question: Are there any environmental restrictions for the NAS? (Power, Weight, BTU, Rack Units consumed)

RESPONSE: No, all hardware is provided by the Government.

Question: How much data will need to be backed up to a single name space or can the data be split up into multiple logical volumes?

RESPONSE: Multiple logical volumes is fine

Question: Will services be required to implement the NAS?

RESPONSE: No/N/A
