Q:
the drawing in the performance work statement has a comment:
“VALVES MAY BE ADDED OR OMITTED TO FACILTATE SYSTEM OPERATION UPON MUTUAL
GOVERNMENT & CONTRACTOR AGREEMENT AS NECESSARY”
This statement is very vague and confusing given the stated requirement of the number of valves in paragraph 2.2.2 b.
A:
2.2.2.b is the minimum the contractor needs to provide. Based on work to be accomplished (or not), the project can have the ability to remove portions of the system they do not anticipate needing at the time. However, the material still has to be on standby.
Q:
Chiller to be installed in the dry dock basin. Where is that? Does it require a crane or forklift to set the chiller into location? Will the government provide the crane or forklift? How much space is allocated for the equipment? Normally a job walk will answer these questions, but the specifications did not indicate one was going to take place.
A:
The drydock basin is the bottom of the drydock. The government provides crane and rigging services to lower the unit to where it needs to go. I do not know the absolute specifics on the footprint on the bottom of the drydock, but I do know that we have fit a 200T chilled water unit with the necessary surge tank and pumps in the drydock basin before. Surprisingly, there is a lot of unused real-estate on the drydock floor.
