3.4.30.1 The lifting attachments shall be sized based on actual weights plus 25% for unexpected growth in the weight of the load. The resulting value shall be further increased to reflect the loads induced by the angle the slings make to the plane the lifting attachments lie on. The attachments shall be oriented so the slings shall not pull out of the plane of the individual lifting attachment by more than 5º unless they are designed to withstand the resulting side load. In addition, the individual loads for each point shall be calculated based on the configuration of the rigged equipment and the location of its center of gravity. These final values shall be referred to as the Working
Load Limit (WLL).
3.4.30.2 The lifting attachments shall be designed using an allowable stress which is the lower of the two values resulting from a safety factor of 3.0 with respect to yield strength (FY) or 5.0 with respect to ultimate strength of the material (FU). A factor of 0.6 shall be applied to any allowable shear stress. For example, the allowable stress for double shear plane tear-out of a padeye hole would be either (0.6)(FY)/3.0 or (0.6)(FU)/5.0, whichever is more restrictive.
3.4.30.3 Any welds shall be designed per American Welding Society (AWS) Specification D1.1 with the following exceptions: Welds shall be designed with a safety factor of 5.0 with respect to the ultimate strength of the weld metal or base metal as applicable. A factor of 0.6 shall be applied to any allowable shear stress. For example, the allowable stress of a fillet weld shall be (0.6) (Fu)/5.0, since fillet welds are generally assumed to fail in shear, where Fu is the ultimate strength of the weld filler material or the base metal as applicable. The allowable stresses provided here apply only to the failure modes, which directly relate to the ILA and the connecting weld joint. These allowable stresses do not apply to any adjacent surrounding structure; however, such surrounding structure may be required to resist a one-time applied load equal to 210 percent of the WLL of the ILA in the cases where 200 percent load tests are required as provided herein.
3.4.30.4 When installing 2 or 4 lifting attachments, only half of them shall be assumed to carry the load.
Spreaders or strongbacks shall not be used in the lifting configuration.
3.4.30.5 The lifting attachments shall be located on the unit so that the unit can be lifted in a level fashion.
The unit’s base of support must not form an angle greater than 5 degrees from horizontal when lifted.
3.4.30.6 The structure supporting the lifting attachments shall be designed to sustain the various lateral loads imparted by the arrangement of the lifting attachments and the induced sling angle loads based on a buckling analysis per the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), Allowable Stress Design.
3.4.30.7 The lifting attachments are required to withstand a load test of 200% +5%-0% of the Working
Load Limit (WLL) for 2 minutes. Acceptance criteria shall be: No bending, cracking, or permanent deformation of the lifting attachments or associated structure. The contractor’s certified representative will perform the load test and inspection requirements of American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 and submit documentation of the satisfactory results of all the various tests. The lifting attachments shall be labeled with the WLL and the test date.
3.4.30.8 All calculations required for the design of the lift points shall be performed by a Professional
Engineer, and shall be provided for review/approval by the Shipyard primary Point of Contact at least 30 days prior to shipment.
3.4.30.9 The total weight of the unit (fully assembled) shall be permanently marked on the side of each unit with 2-inch high lettering (or larger) with a contrasting color from the unit.
3.4.30.10 Each lifting attachment shall be permanently identified with its Working Load Limit by stamping, etching, or by placing a permanently attached label plate.
3.4.31 Technical Data To Be Provided – The contractor shall provide the following technical data:
3.4.31.1 Identify all equipment requiring energy lockout devices and any other utility requirements necessary for the proper installation of required equipment.
