CBIIT leadership has identified Radical Collaboration and Green Zone Thinking as embodying the organizational and culture changes it wishes to develop in the organization.
The purpose of the program is to facilitate the creation of a financially and emotionally strong organizational culture providing customer focused high-performance informatics and information technology services to support the NCI and other NIH Offices, Divisions, and Centers including the NIH Office of the Director. This training will help all staff put forth their best efforts to achieve a shared vision and purpose; are rewarded with meaningful work; and are led through compassionate management, dignity, and respect. Radical Collaboration and Green Zone Thinking Training has been previously presented to other NCI Divisions and its use within CBIIT will ensure continuity and conformance with other NCI organizations.
3.0 Background
CBIIT provides information technology infrastructure, computing, and biomedical informatics support and integration capabilities to the cancer research community and the NCI. CBIIT also serves as a focal point for cancer research informatics planning worldwide. Additionally, CBIIT acquires, manages and operates the collection of hardware, hardware maintenance contracts, software, network, labor and structures required for conducting the administrative and scientific activities of the NCI.
Key components to help transform CBIIT into a customer-focused, service organization that supports the CBIIT mission include mission and functional realignments, a formal, professionally led organizational change management program, and emphasis on shared responsibilities and authorities to ensure a cross-functional, high-performance, team approach to providing customer based services and solutions to the NCI and the cancer research community.
In addition CBIIT and NCI informatics staff actively participate in collaborative efforts with other NCI Divisions, Offices, and Centers (DOCs), NIH ICs, and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Divisions and Offices to develop automated tools, databases, and systems to support research projects, objectives, and missions. An immediate need exists to provide this same Radical Collaboration and Green Zone Thinking Training to project staff from NIH Office of the Associate Director of Data Science, the NCI, and multiple other NIH ICs involved NIH’s Big Data to Knowledge program.
