About this file

This document is an amendment to a solicitation for cleaning and testing two Caterpillar C4.4 generators aboard the TWR-8 vessel. The Navy seeks to clean the alternator ends of both 80kW, 480VAC generators due to unacceptable resistance readings on the rotors and stators. The contractor shall inspect and clean the internals, replace the alternator bearings, conduct pre- and post-cleaning insulation and performance tests, and submit a test report. The period of performance is 14 days from award. The solicitation number is N0025323Q0114 and is issued by the Department of the Navy Naval Sea Systems Command.

VENDOR QUESTIONS

Questions:

1. Can you please provide the serial number for the generators?

2. What bearings are supposed to be removed and replaced? Alternator bearings, engine bearings, typo and no bearings removed and replaced?

3. Is the NAVY looking for testing to be performed specifically on the alternator, engine or both?

4. What specific tests is the NAVY looking to be performed?

5. Is there specific times these generators can have the work performed? Unfortunately we don’t know what loads these generators feed as they may be sensitive.

Answers:

1. M 44.2VS3 C 6/4. Both generators engines and alternators are the exact same model Cat C4.4 Marine

Auxiliary Generator.

2. Bearings to replace would be Alternator bearings, NOT engine bearings.

3. Testing and test reports would be on the Alternator end, NOT the engine.

4. Test reports for: Pre and post cleaning Insulation Resistance (megger) testing of both Stator windings and

Rotor windings. Pre and post cleaning performance test to verify alternator output voltage, frequency, phase and amps using onboard ships loads.

5. These are shipboard generators, there is no specific “time” that work needs to be performed. No sensitive loads are fed from the generators.

SECTION SF 1449 - CONTINUATION SHEET

The following have been modified:

STATEMENT OF WORK
