PERFORMANCE WORK STATEMENT (PWS)
Title: 500T Forge Press
1 introduction
The Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) Code 612 requires award of a fixed price contract for purchase of a 500T Forge Press. Purchase includes associated machine configuration, accessories, and professional services to include equipment installation, training, and rigging support.
2 BACKGROUND:
NSWCCD Code 612 performs in-service engineering services, and research and development pertaining to materials science and engineering. Code 612 also provides engineering and technical support to NAVSEA technical warrant holders, various program offices, and other Department of Defense (DoD) organizations. NSWCCD Code 612 performs research and development in the areas of metallic alloy development and metallic production practices. To improve current research and development capabilities, the Office of the Secretary of Defense Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment Program (OSD IBAS) has funded NSWCCD to stand up the Rapid Applied Materials and Processing (RAMP) laboratory at the NSWCCD Memphis detachment site. Forge presses are used prolifically in the steel industry to improve the mechanical properties of as cast ingots via thermomechanical processing. The NSWCCD Code 612 requires a 500 Ton forge press to conduct these operations in an intermediate scale production environment.
3 OBJECTIVE:
The contractor shall provide one 500T hydraulic forging press designed and configured to thermo-mechanically process 500lb steel ingots at up to 2200 F starting temperature. The forging press will be used for open die hot forging of a variety of metallic alloys (including but not limited to copper, stainless steel, aluminum, and steel alloys).
4 Minimum Specifications:
4.1 Requirements, Equipment:
- Press Dimensions:
o Shut Height: 4in o Daylight: 36in o Bolster: 48in x 48in
(S) L-R frame clearance of 48in
(S) F-B frame clearance >24in
(S) Bed height of 36in o Stroke: 32in (driven by daylight and shut height).
o Overall height less than 14.5ft due to crane.
o The press must fit within bed height and total height requirements without the use of a pit. The press must be designed to be installed flat on a concrete floor of appropriate strength/thickness.
- Bolsters o T-Slot bolsters for manufacturer standard tool mounting.
o 4140 or equivalent bolster material.
