SPECIFICATION 90 79 00
This specification includes requirements for the installation and construction of heavy duty vehicular gates within the work area, and includes the following:

PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS, CONTRACT CLAUSES, & SPECIFICATIONS
The following may not include all related documents, contract clauses, & technical specifications, and does not relieve the Contractor of the responsibility of performing work associated with this specification in accordance with all terms of the Contract herein.
A. Related documents: As described in paragraph 1.2 of SPECIFICATION 01 01 00.
B. Contract: Section I, 52.236-21“Specifications and Drawings for Construction”
C. Technical Specifications:

• SPECIFICATION 60 40 00, “Reinforcing Steel”

1.2 GENERAL
In general, the Contractor shall furnish and install heavy duty vehicular gates at the locations shown in the plans.
PART 2 – MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT
2.1 MATERIALS
The Contractor shall use materials that conform to plan’s requirements and the following specifications:
A. Backfill concrete: Class A concrete in accordance with specification 60 21 00, “Hydraulic Cement Concrete”.
B. Painting Materials: In accordance with specification 60 46 00, “Cleaning and Painting Steel”.
C. Structural Steel: As called out on drawings.
D. Reinforcing Steel: As called out on drawings and in accordance with specification 60 40 00, USIBWC Contract No.: IBM09B0005 Page 90.79.00 - 2
“Reinforcing Steel”.
2.2 FABRICATION
A. Fabricate all components and elements following the standards, tolerances and guidelines noted in the contract drawings.
B. All welding to be performed by a certified welder in accordance with AWS standards and guidelines.
C. Tighten all bolts to torque specifications determined by the manufacturer and Engineer of record.
D. Gates shall be painted in accordance with System II as defined in Specification 60 46 00, “Cleaning and Painting Steel”. The appearance coat shall be Safety Yellow meeting DMS-8100.
E. All gates shall have a minimum clear opening of twelve (12) feet and will be such that they can easily be opened or closed by one individual.
PART 3 – CONSTRUCTION METHODS
The Contractor shall construct gates in accordance with details, alignment, and grade designated on the Contract Drawings.
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Do not begin installation until foundations have been properly prepared.
B. If foundation preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify COR of any unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
B. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
3.3 INSTALLATION
The location of gates shall be as indicated in Contract Drawings; adjustments in location may be made at the direction of the COR. As a general rule, all gates shall be located a sufficient distance back from any ramp-off or roadway to permit a vehicle to park on level ground while opening and closing the gate.
3.4 PROTECTION
A. Protect installed products until completion of project.
B. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.

PART 4 – MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
4.1 MEASUREMENT
The Work performed under this Specification will be measured as each vehicular gate complete in place.
This is a plans quantity measurement Specification. The quantity to be paid for is the quantity shown in the proposal except as modified by Contract Provisions.
4.2 PAYMENT
The work performed and materials furnished in accordance with this Specification and measured as provided under “Measurement” will be paid for at the unit price bid for “Vehicular Gate.” This price will be full compensation for providing heavy duty vehicular gates and posts, furnishing, preparing, and placing concrete, constructing foundation, and all other materials required in the finished gates; removal and disposal of salvageable materials; hardware, paint and painting of metal components, concrete finishes, galvanizing, equipment, labor, tools, and incidentals.
