Antenna Element, GPS-IRIDIUM – QTY 5

The following specifications represent the minimum acceptable requirements for the Antenna

Element, GPS-IRIDIUM.

1.0 ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS

Except where otherwise stated, the requirements below apply to all frequencies with in the specified frequency range.

Frequency ranges: L2 L1 Iridium

1.217 - 1.237 GHz

1.565 - 1.585 GHz

1.610 - 1.625 GHz

Polarization: Right hand circular.

VSWR: ≤1.80:1, over 80% of bands, 2.2:1 maximum

Gain:

L2 4.0 dBic minimum L1 3.5 dBic minimum Iridium 4.0 dBic minimum

3 dB beamwidth:

L2 85 deg. minimum L1 80 deg minimum Iridium 80 deg. minimum

Squint: 10 deg. maximum

Power handling in Iridium band: 20W minimum

2.0 MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS

Connector: SMA Female per MIL-C-39012

Dimensional Requirements: See Figure 1.

Marking:

Antenna shall be marked with the manufacturer’s

CAGE code, part number and serial number IAW

MIL-STD-130.

Workmanship: Workmanship shall be IAW Requirement 9 of MIL-

HDBK-454

3.0 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

End item environmental requirements consists of the following:

Operating temperature range: All performance requirements must be met over the operating temperature range of -34 to +85 degrees C.

Storage Temperature: The component shall meet all performance requirements after exposure to an ambient storage temperature of -62 to +71 degrees C.

Vibration: Vibration per MIL-STD-167-1 for mast mounted equipment shall not degrade performance.

Transportation: The equipment shall withstand transit in an unpressurized aircraft cargo hold to 15000 ft above sea level without performance degradation.

Fungus: The materials that make up the component shall be fungus inert and the component shall not support fungal growth.

Prohibited Materials: The component shall not contain toxic hazardous substances in accordance with 29 CFR 1910, Subpart H and Subpart Z, FED-STD-

313, 40 CFH Chapter I, Subchapter J, and SD-14.

The component shall not contain any materials, which could give off toxic fumes at any temperature below 95 C.

Functional mercury

Carcinogens

Exposed Glass Fibers

Germanium semi-conductors

Lithium and lithium compounds, except approved batteries

Magnesium or magnesium alloys

Polyvinyl chloride, except when used for part leads. Radioactive commodities

Zinc or zinc alloys

Shock: The component shall meet performance requirements after a 125 G shock.

4.0 TEST REQUIREMENTS

Pattern and gain measurements shall be performed at the lowest frequency, center frequency, and highest frequency of each of the three frequency ranges specified. VSWR shall be measured across the operating frequency ranges with sufficient resolution to accurately characterize the worst case performance in each of the three bands. Summary data sheets shall be prepared and delivered with each antenna showing the actual gain, beamwidth, squint, and VSWR performance against each of the performance specifications in Section 1.0. Plots and other supporting data developed during the course of the tests shall also be delivered.
