1.1 Background

The aircraft paint and coating systems used on United States Coast Guard (USCG) aircraft provides the primary barrier against the severe maritime operating environments and protects the aircraft from corrosion. The primers are required to be both chromium based and non-chromium based corrosion inhibitor primers. The topcoats are required to provide an extended weatherability coating available in gloss and flat finishes.
