VII. MARKET RESEARCH/EFFORTS TO OBTAIN COMPETITION

Currently, there are existing, installed executive furniture, valued at approximately $3,000,000 of the existing furniture line – Baritone, previously via Federal Prison Industries, Inc. (UNICOR), which is the sole manufacturer of the product in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Pentagon.

A Sources Sought Notice was posted on FedBizOpps/GSA ebuy and sent to Ability One and determined that an exact match to the line of furniture could not be obtained or similar products that would be aesthetically acceptable and compatible with the existing products for the space.

VIII. ADDITIONAL FACTS SUPPORTING THE JUSTIFICATION

If other sources are to compete with this acquisition and are not equal or similar to the existing furniture, all items currently located with OSD Pentagon, would have to be replaced in order to maintain a uniform professional look. Parts and pieces of the furniture need to be compatible with the current inventory as not to be a waste as what the Government already has in storage. The furniture already located in the suites through the OSD Pentagon are in good condition and occupies an area of approximately 140 million square feet valued at approximately $3,000,000.

IX. ACTIONS TO INCREASE COMPETITION

The Government will continue to conduct ongoing market research to determine available competition for similar or equal type executive office furniture.
