OVERVIEW
DESCRIPTION OF WORK

3’x5’ culverts at the intersection of Falcon Way and Phantom Drive. It is required that the contractor have culvert location #3 completed prior to demolition of the intersection. Contractor will also need to remove the existing concrete culverts and return to CE for future use. Contractor will protect culverts during removal if at all possible. Total demo area is approximately 184 square yards.
2. New Construction
a. Contractor will install culverts at three locations along the ditch. Culvert location #1 is under the intersection of Falcon Way and Phantom Drive.
Culvert location #2 is located by building 126. Culvert location #3 is located between the parking lot at the end of Phantom Drive and Falcon Way. See plans for exact locations. There is a total culvert length approximately 192 feet which is roughly 64 feet of culvert at each location. Contractor will provide and install an engineered culvert system that is capable of supporting an HS20 loading and direct vehicular traffic. The culvert must also support a cross sectional area of 120 square feet. Headwalls with toe walls must be constructed to channel water into the culvert on both ends of the culvert.
i. Culvert #1 Information
1. Station 10+00 to 10+64
2. Invert elevation = 454.00 @ 10+00 and 453.80 @ 10+64
3. Culvert running slope = .32%
ii. Culvert #2 Information
1. Station 12+60 to 13+23
2. Invert elevation = 453.00 @ 12+60 and 452.50 @ 13+23
3. Culvert running slope = .79%
iii. Culvert #3 Information
1. Station 19+89 to 20+52
2. Invert elevation = 449.00 @ 19+89 and 448.50 @ 20+52
3. Culvert running slope = .79%
b. The culverts will need to be backfilled using an engineered backfill to allow the construction of sidewalk and vehicular traffic over the culverts. Backfill will need to be compacted to a minimum of 95% of the materials proctor.
c. Contractor will replace removed concrete roadway from the demo section of the SOW with new 8” thick concrete on 6” of aggregate base. Expansion joints will not exceed 15 feet and construction joints will not exceed 90 feet without approval.
d. Contractor will install two 4’x6’ curb inlets where the existing curb turnout was located. Contractor will install approximately 35 linear feet of 15” RCP from the curb inlet to the headwall of culvert #1.
e. Contractor will install 4” thick by 10’ wide sidewalk over the culvert locations #2 & #3. Sidewalk will be placed on top of a minimum of 4” of aggregate at culvert #2 location. Culvert #3 location will be used as a temporary vehicular bridge to cross the ditch while culvert #1 is being constructed. Contractor will construct a temporary road bed over culvert #3 and once culvert #1 is complete to allow traffic; Contractor will cover road bed with 10’ wide sidewalk identical to culvert #2 and topsoil and seed & mulch.
f. There is approximately 110 linear feet of curb and gutter, 170 square yards of sidewalk, 100 tons of aggregate subbase, 2000 cubic yards of backfill, 1440 cubic yards of topsoil, and .13 acres of seed and mulch or hydroseed.
