High Fire Hazard Area Vegetation Road Clearance
This is a bid opportunity document from the City of Santa Barbara Fire Department for vegetation road clearance services in high fire hazard areas. The contract, identified as Bid No. 6199, seeks to reduce flammable vegetation along roadways, enhance evacuation routes during wildland fires, and decrease emergency response times within the City's High Fire Hazard Areas (Wildland Fire Suppression Assessment Districts). The scope requires vegetation pruning, limbing, thinning, and removal across multiple roads, with each road requiring different amounts of work based on local conditions. Contractors must inspect all designated roads prior to bid submission, with no allowances provided for conditions that should have been discovered during inspections. The bid posting date is July 23, 2026, with electronic submissions due August 18, 2026, at 3:00 PM PDT. No pre-bid meeting will be held, but an online Q&A period is available with a deadline of August 11, 2026. The initial contract term is one year from the award date, with options to renew for four additional one-year terms, not to exceed five years total.
This lump sum bid opportunity requires a Payment Bond equal to 100 percent of the total bid amount if the award exceeds $25,000. The contract is restricted to eBidding and requires bidders to be registered as DIR Public Works Contractors with either a C-27 or C-49 license. The project is scheduled to begin in August or September 2026. Contractors should use the City's interactive online map tool and reference Attachments B and C (Maps of High Fire Hazard Areas 2025 and WFSAD Roads) to identify the boundaries and specific roads requiring work. The opportunity falls under service categories for tree and shrub removal, grounds maintenance, landscaping, tree trimming and pruning, and weed and vegetation control. Contact for questions is Ana Maria Peinado, Buyer II, at 805-564-5356 or ampeinado@santabarbaraca.gov.
