Questions & Answers (Q&A)

September 26, 2017

1. Question: This sentence: "The system must employ either resonant scanning in the X axis with galvanometer-based scanning in the Y axis."

"Either" usually suggests there will be an "or" coming, but instead there is "with". I guess I will use "with" and ignore "either" because it makes more sense. Please confirm.

Answer: This should say, ‘A microscope with resonant scanning system would be preferred, but is not necessary. Galvanometer-based scanning systems would be acceptable only if options for later upgrades to resonant scanning are available.

2. Question: This sentence: "The system must include one GaAsp photomultiplier tubes

(PMTs) for sensitive, fluorescence detection of green fluorescence."

Do you want one tubes or more than one tubes? Usually the plural is not used with "one" This is likely a simple typo, but each PMT adds significantly to the price so this is not a trivial question.

Answer: Actually, a system with one (1) PMT would be fine, but having a PMT as part of the system is not necessary. We can provide the PMTs in a system that does not come with PMTs.

3. Question: If the system is used for in vivo imaging, there is no point in having it equipped with transmitted light. In vivo USUALLY implies that the specimen is not transparent (for example the whole head of the animal is under the objective). In this case, transmitted light has no purpose. Transmitted light comes from below the sample and would not be able to transmit through the animal's head. It is possible that you desires a multipurpose microscope, but that is not what is stated.

Answer: This is essentially correct (not the inflection but the argument). As far as our requirements, having a light path for transmitted light is not essential.

4. Question: Under quantity: "One (1) two photon laser microscope system (inclusive of all system components and peripherals),” Is the laser considered a peripheral in this case or will that be obtained elsewhere.

Answer: Fortunately, we already have a laser for this system. So we do not seek to purchase a system along with a laser.
