Introduction to Off-Road Driving (8 Hrs.)
The “Introduction to Off-Road Driving” is a starter class intended for off-road novices. As such, its content will be broad and comprehensive. The primary goal of this course is to introduce off-roading and provide a wide range of information. The training consists of 4 hours of classroom information and discussion, followed by 4-5 hours behind-the-wheel. The first 2 hours behind-the-wheel involve coaching each driver in a highly controlled practice area. This is followed by a mild group trail ride to reinforce the coaching. The Introduction course is intended for “light duty” users only.
This day provides the student with a good foundation of information and experience. The student will acquire the ability to negotiate individual obstacles in mild terrain. It can be supplemented later with additional behind the wheel experience, additional training on recovery plus in depth courses on specific terrain such as rocks, and sand.
This class prepares students to:
· Operate 4-Wheel Drive vehicles safely and confidently in a variety of moderate terrain
· Assess a 4-wheel drive vehicle readiness for use off-road
· Understand the unique characteristics and behavior of 4WD vehicles
· Apply driving skills to a variety of terrain situations
· Understand safety issues in off-road driving to avoid injury and vehicle damage
· Understand concepts of 4-Wheel drive and how/ when to use it
· Know the basic capabilities and limitation of their vehicle.
· Apply techniques & tips for driving on rough roads, ruts, hills, berms, ledges, ditches, rock, & sand
The core of Badlands Off-Road Adventures training consists of repetition of “see, hear, and do”. For training purposes, we provide one instructor for every 5 vehicles. Each vehicle can have no more than 2 students. These ratios allow us to provide individualized instruction that is required for the best opportunities for behind-the-wheel driving and ground guiding training. The number of instructors to students provides a cost effective ratio for effective training. The instructor ratio can be increased at the customer’s requests. Badlands Off-Road provides instruction, text book, associated materials and handouts for each student. At the completion of the course each participant will receive a certificate of completion. The course is held at our training area(s) in Southern California or at the customer’s location. When on the customer site, the customer will provide a classroom, and access to terrain requirements we specify to meet the needs of the training.
Basic Off-Road Driving (24 hrs.)
This clinic starts with the fundamentals of the introductory one day clinic and includes hands on recovery training. Students acquire the ability to negotiate a continuous series of obstacles of moderate difficulty over unfamiliarly terrain. Fundamental to this course is the need for driving time. Only time behind-the-wheel will increase proficiency of the student. The student will gain valuable experience to visually estimate the capability of the vehicle to successfully negotiating alternative lines of attack through increasingly difficult terrain and natural obstacles.
