1. Isolated ground panelboard inspection.

a. See below for required procedure.

2. Normal panelboard inspection.

3. Transformer inspection (if applicable).

4. Branch Circuit and Receptacle Inspection and Testing.

5. IWS/LAN connector and Cable Inspection.

C. Isolated Ground Verification

1. Test Equipment: Fluke 87 Multimeter or similar.

2. Procedure

a. Step 1: Coordinate with office manager for the best time to perform this test (early morning, lunch, etc.).

b. Step 2: Verify that no plugstrips, copier machines, extraneous power supplies, or other unauthorized devices are plugged into isolated ground receptacles.

c. Step 3: Set Fluke meter to Ohmic scale.

d. Step 4: Instruct the contractor to remove the separately derived ground conductor (i.e. incoming isolated ground conductor) from the IG panel isolated bus.

e. Step 5: Connect the Fluke red probe to the isolated ground bus and the black probe to the equipment ground bus. The reading should be infinity or "OL" (overload).

f. Step 6: With the separately derived ground conductor still disconnected proceed to the furniture system and check each wall outlet and each furniture circuit zone between the IG outlet ground prong and equipment ground (equipment ground may be at a standard duplex prong or direct contact to exposed metal parts of the furniture system). The reading should be infinity or "OL" (overload).

g. Step 7: If Step 5 passes and Step 6 results in an ohmic reading; the short is probably the result of an improperly connected isolated ground conductor at the furniture system wiring harness connection.

3. Troubleshooting

a. If step 5 results in an Ohmic reading, the test has failed. Conduct the following trouble shooting procedure with the separately derived ground still disconnected.

b. Step 1: Instruct the contractor to remove one IG branch conductor at a time from the IG panelboard with the ohmmeter connected between IG bus and EG bus.

(Note: Do not reconnect conductors to bus until all the failed conductors and/or bus have been identified.)

c. Step 2: Continue to remove conductors until meter reads infinity or overload.

1) If after all isolated ground conductors have been removed, the meter does not read infinity or overload then the IG bus is shorted to the panel.

d. Step 3: Instruct the contractor to mark and test the isolated grounding conductor(s) which have been removed from the IG bus until all shorts are found and isolated.

e. Step 4: Instruct the contractor to correct the shorted isolated ground conductor.

Retest by connecting ohmmeter between the conductor and the equipment ground bus. Reading should be infinity or "OL" (overload).

D. Data Cable Test

1. Refer to Section 16720 for testing requirements.

3.05 CLEANING

1. The work required consists of furnishing labor, materials, equipment and services necessary for removal of materials and equipment as indicated and specified and classification thereof as defined. It also consists of work necessary for protection of existing building, maintaining SSA's and the building owner's operations and accomplishing new work.

1.02 DEFINITIONS

A. "Abandon"

1. Disconnect item from existing system connections. Plug or cap openings in item and former connections to system. Leave item in place.

B. "Remove"

1. Disconnect item from existing system. Permanently plug or cap openings of system and extract the item from its position. Dispose of supports, debris, and other items left behind. Leave existing system to remain, in first class condition. Dispose of the item as directed in compliance with the specified Classifications.

2. After materials and equipment are removed, inspect the structure to remain in place and notify the Contracting Officer of defects uncovered. Repair of such defects and other additional work required by the Contracting Officer will be compensated by Contract adjustment in accordance with the conditions of the Contract.

1. This term may be applied to any material or equipment removed under this alteration operation, including incidental parts, pieces or attachments, which meets the requirements of the applicable Section of the Specifications, subject to the approval of the Contracting Officer. Carefully remove, thoroughly clean, and finished as specified in the applicable Section of the Specifications, then install as specified for new material.

2. When procedure of the Work prevents the immediate reinstallation of items specified or indicated as "relocate"; protect, transport and store such items until such time as reinstallation is possible. When ready for the reinstallation, remove the items from storage and reinstall in new locations.

3. In lieu of relocating an existing item, the Contractor may provide a new item, subject to the Contracting Officer's approval, and classify the item to be relocated as trash.

D. "Salvage"

1. Useful material or equipment which will not be reused as part of the Project. Dismantle material and equipment to useful sizes, shapes or components and deliver to the Contracting Officer on the site, set up or packaged for storage as directed by the Contracting Officer or as specified. Place on wood skids for ease of handling. Removal of paint, degreasing or cleaning, except that required for normal handling, is not required.

Material and equipment salvaged from the operation remains the property of the Owner.

E. "Trash"

1. Unusable or unsalvageable material such as broken or worn out equipment, fixtures or devices, old conduit, wire, and cable. Remove from the premises as the work progresses, and legally dispose of trash off the site.

1.03 SUBMITTALS

A. Schedule and Method

1. Before the start of the Project, present an alteration schedule indicating the timing and method proposed to maintain service during the construction period for review and approval by the Contracting Officer.

1.04 SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING

A. Interruption to SSA's and Building Owner's Activities

1. Interference with SSA's and the building owner's activities is not permitted. Accomplish scheduling of removals, abandonment, relocation and alteration of existing facilities with the approval of the Contracting Officer before beginning any phase of the work.

2. Maintain existing electrical and communications systems and other facilities in operation.

When temporary disruption of such services is found to be necessary during the course of alteration work, such disruption is allowed only by permission of, and at such time as may be designated by the Contracting Officer

3.01 GENERAL

A. Prior to beginning Work, survey existing construction, including structure, finish and equipment, adjacent to Work to be removed. Submit a written report of defects found in such work to the Contracting Officer.

B. Prior to cutting existing construction, investigate the presence of active utilities, including electrical conduits, telecommunication lines, and piping, which may be damaged by such cutting.

3.02 PATCHING

A. Where finish materials are removed for replacement by new materials, prepare the substrate as needed to receive the new finish materials.

B. Where openings in existing walls or partitions are to be closed, including openings left by removal of telepower poles, close the openings with new materials to match existing materials, including wall finish where exposed. Patch such openings which occur in fire rated partitions to maintain the fire resistance rating.

C. Where items which penetrate existing ceilings are removed, such as telepower poles, close the openings with new materials to match existing materials, including suspension system.

D. Replace fireproofing material which has been removed from structural steel members with approved material to maintain the existing fire resistance rating.

3.03 CUTTING

A. Cut and patch existing construction as needed for demolition and alteration work.

B. Cut the work using methods that are least likely to damage work to be retained or adjoining work.

Where possible, review proposed procedures with the original installer; comply with original installer's recommendations.

C. Where cutting is required, use hand or small power tools designed for sawing or grinding, not hammering and chopping. Cut through concrete and masonry using a cutting machine such as a Carborundum saw or core drill to insure a neat hole.

D. Cut holes and slots neatly to minimum size required with minimum disturbance of adjacent work.

To avoid marring existing finished surfaces, cut or drill from the exposed or finished side into concealed surfaces. Cover openings when not in use.

E. By-pass utility services such as pipe and conduit, before cutting, where such utility services are shown or required to be removed, relocated or abandoned. Cut-off conduit and pipe in walls or

F. Remove abandoned electrical services and equipment where such items are in existing construction to be removed.

G. Support, temporarily, electrical services and equipment, which are attached to walls or other structures to be removed, and which are to remain in service. Remove temporary supports when permanent support is in place and so directed.

3.04 CONNECTIONS TO EXISTING WORK

A. Make proper and approved connections of new Work to existing construction and all necessary adjustments of either or both as required to produce a complete and workmanlike job.
