PART 3 – Description/Specifications

3.1 STATEMENT OF WORK:

Background

The Government requires an immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining system for qualitative and quantitative characterization of tissue-based biomarkers. The staining system will replace the existing Ventana autostainer and will increase tissue staining capabilities and allow for more flexibility in reagent usage. Specifically, the IHC slide staining system should be capable of processing a larger number of slides in a single run and a fully open reagent system which will facilitate the identification of tissue-based biomarkers. The staining system will support numerous projects in the division including humanized mouse projects and engineered heart tissue projects that require visualization of tissue-based biomarkers. The staining system will run those biomarker assays on slide-mounted tissue sections by performing the reagent application and wash steps. The IHC staining system will have fully programmable and customizable capabilities for protocol development as well as the capability to run different protocols on each slide.

OBJECTIVES

The objective is to obtain an immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining system as described above in order to replace the existing autostainer. The IHC slide staining system should provide a large slide capacity and a fully open reagent system which will facilitate the identification of tissue-based biomarkers.

REQUIREMENTS

• The system shall comprise a stainer with an associated computer/workstation and research software.

• Bench-top footprint of stainer with dimensions not exceeding 50 in W x 30 in D x 30 in H.

3 | P a g e

• The system must provide reagent flexibility with a fully open system that places no requirements or restrictions on manufacturer or format of reagent.

• The system shall be able to integrate with LIS through HL-7 and XML messaging.

• The system shall be able to process up to 50 slides at a time.

• The system shall be able to run multiplex testing.

• The system shall have an on-board reagent mixing station for reagents with limited reactivity time and a cold plate for heat-labile reagents.
