MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
FOR A
NEUTRAL XENON VELOCITY AND NUMBER DENSITY WITH ELECTRON NUMBER
DENSITY SENSOR SYSTEM FOR HALL THRUSTERS
GENERAL:
This specification is for a complete system based on microwave absorption and scattering spectroscopy to measure neutral xenon number density, velocity, as well as electron number density in exhaust plumes of xenon Hall thrusters.
The sensor system shall incorporate the following capabilities:
1. High resolution, tunable laser suitable for Xenon ionization (between wavelengths of 200 nm and 2 um)
2. Microwave Network Analyzer: 100 kHz to 18 GHz range.
3. Microwave signal generator: 100 kHz to 18 GHz range
4. Vacuum compatible microwave antennas, waveguides, cables—must be designed for
1.8m diameter 304L stainless steel chamber.
5. Analog to Digital conversion at 1 million samples per second or higher.
6. Data Acquisition system compatible with National Instruments LabView or Mathworks
MatLab.
7. Drivers and user interface software compatible with LabView or MatLab.
8. All interfaces between units inside the vacuum chamber and those outside the vacuum chamber shall use one of the following connections:
a. BNC coaxial connection
b. Individual 22 gauge conductors suitable for up to 100V power
c. SMA coaxial connections
d. Other wiring connections must be in CF50 or QF50 vacuum pass through flanges
e. All items individually valued at over $5,000 shall be individually labeled with serial numbers, part or model numbers to assist in inventory control. Components intended for vacuum chamber use shall be labelled using methods compatible with a vacuum environment, and adhesive labels are generally incompatible with vacuum operations) and permanent. Engraving/etching, metallic data plates, or similar are considered appropriate.
DESIGN APPROVAL:
Contractor shall provide electronic schematics, drawings, mechanical interfaces in a specification package of general system design with a detailed list of items, interfaces, and functions to ensure compatibility with existing vacuum chamber.
TESTING AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Contractor shall perform a Manufacturer’s Acceptance Test at the contractor’s facility before delivery, to verify function of all components at the system level. The contractor shall provide operations and installation training at the customer’s facility within 2 weeks after shipping or at the convenience of the customer. Contractor shall demonstrate that all components are properly integrated/mated and function correctly. Contractor shall label all components, with part/model numbers and serial numbers, as necessary, to coincide with documentation and graphical interface.
Labels must be compatible with the intended environment (components intended for use inside the vacuum chamber must be compatible with a vacuum environment, and adhesive labels are generally incompatible with vacuum operations) and permanent. Engraving/etching, metallic data plates, or similar are considered appropriate.
Training shall consist of familiarizing the owner with the machine (review of the Operators Manual). Contractor shall provide a simple, easy-to-follow checklist sealed in plastic and attached to the front of the unit. The contractor shall teach the sequence of operation, machine safety considerations, machine-alarming system, operator interface system, conditions monitored, conditions controlled, equipment adjustments, changeover, replacement and repairs of various parts. Training shall also include review of setup, preventive maintenance tasks, and exploration of equipment repair areas. Training shall also cover all hardware and software to include controls.
SAFETY
Safety systems shall be included to prevent damage to equipment and personnel. Safety system shall protect equipment in the event of power loss. Warning labels on the equipment and documentation shall be included, for all hazards inherent in the system, to include, but not limited to: laser emissions, high voltage, high current, any hazardous materials or infrared/ultraviolet radiation.
PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE
The contractor shall deliver a complete system no later than 9 months after contract approval.
DELIVERY
The company shall properly ship the system to the Air Force Institute of Technology at WPAFB, OH.
All shipping costs to include insurance will be included in contractor’s proposal. Great care using standard, approved packaging methods shall be taken.
WARRANTY
Free from defects in material and workmanship, under normal and proper use in accordance with our instructions in the maintenance manual, for the period of time of one year after receipt.
PAYMENTS
100% payment after delivery.
