Replace Cooling Tower
Vendor RFIs and Government Responses
29 July 2015
1. Specification section 23 65 00 - 2.5.1.8 and drawing for the Tower Piping and Sweeper Piping call for plastic piping but the ASTM D2996 refers to Filament Wound Fiberglass piping. Is piping to be Sch 40 plastic or fiberglass?
Response:
a) The schedule 40 piping is correct.
b) The ASTM D2996 is incorrect. The ASTM standard shall be ASTM D2466.
2. Division 02 – Existing Conditions calls for removal of asbestos; pcb and pcb contaminated items; pcb light ballasts; mercury- containing lamps; materials containing lead and lead-based paint but there are no documents (reports) or drawings specifying these items for removal. Do any of these materials need to be abated / remediated and do you have hazardous material reports / drawings available?
Response:
a) Division 02 – Existing Conditions covers materials that may be encounter throughout the entire project.
b) The supply and return piping material to the existing cooling tower is unknown but suspect to be transite material. See note 14 on sheet C-200 and General Note 1 on sheet C-500.
3. “Division 02 – Existing Conditions” calls for removal of asbestos; pcb and pcb contaminated items; pcb light ballasts; mercury- containing lamps; materials containing leadT and lead-based paint but there are no documents (reports) or drawings specifying these items for removal. Do any of these materials need to be abated / remediated and do you have hazardous material reports / drawings available?
Response:
a. Refer to general notes on drawing C500. It is believed that the Transite piping has asbestos contained within it.
b. Refer to drawing C200 for notes on removal of Transite piping.
c. Division 2 – Existing conditions cover materials that may be encountered throughout the entire project.
4. The temporary chiller lines have conduit interferences off of the existing MCC. Do these conduits get removed?
Response:
a. Refer to Addendum 01 for temporary chiller lines relocation.
5. The temporary chiller piping will have to be run very low under ductwork due to existing piping run perpendicular to the duct. There is not enough room to install. Please clarify?
Response:
a. Refer to Addendum 01 for temporary chiller lines relocation.
6. The condenser water filter schedule is based on a granular media type, but the spec talks about centrifugal action separators. Please clarify?
Response:
a. Model PEPICS2-0550-TCP-AP is indicated in the schedule. This model number is a centrifugal separator NOT a media type.
7: Section 23 00 23 page 29 mentions insertion turbine and vortex meters... are these exiting meters or will new meters be required? Will insertion vortex meters be excepted?
Response:
a. Bid as stated.
8: If new meters are required... what flows will they be monitoring?
Response:
a. Bid as stated.
9: Where can I find application data for new applications for vortex meters -- flows, lines sizes, flow rates, operating pressures, operating temperatures?
Response:
a. Bid as stated.
