3.2 Fusion welding. Only Classes 304L, 316L, or 347 shall be used for fusion welding applications.

3.3 Annealed material. Annealed material shall not be substituted for 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, or full hard material.

4. NOTES

4.1 General. The following subparagraphs provide cautionary information to be considered when calling out this specification.

4.1.1 Cold forming of material. When annealed material is specified; 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, or full hard material may crack during cold forming operations.

4.1.2 Spot welding. This specification shall not be used when the material is to be resistance spot welded.

4.2 Class/type. Documentation for corrosion resistant steels use both the term ”class” and the term ”type” to categorize material. This specification standardizes on ”class” to cover both terms.

4.3 Revision identification. The margins of this specification are marked with change bars to indicate where changes (additions, modifications, corrections, deletions) from the previous issue were made. This was done as a convenience only and General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products assumes no liability whatsoever for any inaccuracies in these notations.

Evaluation of the requirements of this document should be based on the entire content irrespective of the marginal notation and relationship to the last previous issue. In the event of extensive revision to the specification, symbols will not be used to identify changes.
