SECTION 11 24 13 - BOLT D-RINGS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and other Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.2 SUMMARY

A. Section Includes:

1. Bolt D-rings.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data.

B. Mill Certificates.

C. Research/Evaluation reports.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Product Tests: Mill certificates and product test reports from a qualified independent testing agency indicating product complies with requirements

1.5 REFERENCES

A. OSHA (29 CFR 1910.66 App C, Section I, (c)(9), proposed 29 CFR 1910.128(c)(9), and 29 CFR 1926.502(d)(8)).

B. ANSI/IWCA I-14.1 - Window Cleaning Safety; International Window Cleaning Association, 2001.

1.6 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Bolt D-rings shall comply with ANSI/ASSE Z359 – Fall Protection Code, 2007.

1. Minimum breaking strength: 5,000 lb. Load may be applied in any direction.

2. Proof test load: 3,600 lb.

1.7 WARRANTY

A. Provide a minimum one-year material and labor warranty.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. Carbon-steel: Grade 1045.

B. Stainless-steel: Grade 410.

C. Geometry: Shall generally conform to Figure 1.

Where, W = 4 1/4 inches, X = 2 15/16 inches, and Y = 2 13/16 inches

2.2 MANUFACTURERS

A. Available manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the work include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. PenSafe Inc.

a. Carbon steel - P/N 3732

b. Stainless steel - P/N 3742

2. Miller by Sperian

a. Carbon steel - P/N 417

b. Stainless steel - P/N 417SS

3. Or approved equal.

B. Comparable Product and Substitution Requests: Submit three copies of each request for consideration. Identify product or fabrication or installation method to be replaced.

1. Documentation: Show compliance with requirements for substitutions and the following, as applicable:

a. Detailed comparison of significant qualities of proposed substitution with those of the work specified. Significant qualities may include attributes such as performance, weight, size, durability, visual effect, and specific features and requirements indicated.

b. Product data including drawings and descriptions of products and fabrication and installation procedures.

c. List of similar installations for completed projects with project names and addresses and names and addresses of architects and owners.

d. Material test reports from a qualified testing agency indicated and interpreting test results for compliance with requirements indicated.

e. Research/evaluation reports evidencing compliance with building code in effect for project, from a model code organization acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.

f. Contractor’s certification that proposed substitution complies with requirements in the contract documents and is appropriate for applications indicated.

g. Contractor’s waiver of rights to additi9onal payment or time that may subsequently become necessary because of failure of proposed substitution to produce indicated results.

h. Provide additional information or documentation for evaluation as requested by the Architect.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. For bolting and orientation requirements refer to drawings. Unless specified otherwise, D-rings shall be orientated horizontally.

B. Provide isolation membrane between bolt D-ring and support structure where potential for dissimilar metal corrosion exists.

C. Fasten stainless steel bolt D-ring using 5/8” diameter 316 stainless steel bolt. Fasten carbon steel bolt D-ring using 5/8” diameter grade 8 bolt. Tighten bolt to 145 -155 ft. lb. torque.

D. No part of fastener shall extend beyond surface shown in Figure 2.

E. Secure bolt with thread locking compound.

F. Install all work true, level, tightly fitted and flush with adjacent surfaces as required and in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements.
