MEMORANDUM FOR AFSC/PZIMB FROM: 76 PMXG/QPE
SUBJECT: Brand Name Justification for Procurement of Dax UV Light Curing System - FAR 6.302-l (c)
1. This office, 76 PMXG/QP, requests the purchase of Dymax brand name UV curing system. The new UV light curing system will reduce the total maskant curing time from three days to one day by allowing a thicker application of the liquid maskant than previously used by the plating and plasma spray processes. Also, thr Dyrnax UV curing system will reduce man-hours and flow time when the engine parts come into PMXG for the liquid maskant application.
2. The only maskant approved for use in the black oxide coating process for the F-108 engine at Tinker AFB is produced by Dymax. Inaddition, 76 PMXG's Equivalent Tooing and Consumable Material Approval List (ETCMAL) 11-0005-010 requires the use of Dymax liquid maskant for the engine parts; therefore, no substitute or equivalent UV light curing system can be procured except the brand name Dymax. Dymax has the only known UV light curing systems that is guaranteed to cure Dymax maskants. As the original equipment manufacturer of the UV light curing system, the curing system can be directly purchased from Dymax or their distributor Ellsworth.
3. Alternatives and/or equivalent systems or products cannot be pursued for evaluation purposes because improper curing can ruin the physical properties of the silver area that is masked during the process. If the silver application to the gear teeth is not the same existing silver that we apply here at Tinker, then the engine parts section runs the risk of having an unserviceable part ]"";- nnllA··--1•1- -..J ..... .....
