ASU COLDBOX RECOVERY

Andersen AFB, Guam

Statement Of Work

1.0 NITROGEN DISTILLATION COLUMN REPLACEMENT

1.1 A brand new, improved design nitrogen distillation column GCS P/N 951450-001 shall be installed into the Coldbox. The improved column design shall provided better protection to avoid potential weld fatigue during future thermal & pressure cycles associated with the normal function of a cryogenic distillation column. The new column shall function the same as the original column performed before the incident transpired.

2.0 COLDBOX INTERNAL PIPING REPLACEMENT, COLDBOX STRUCTURAL REPAIRS, SYSTEM CONTROL COMPONENTS, AND ASU OPERATIONAL TEST

2.1 During the recovery of the ColdBox after a new nitrogen column is installed, there are numerous internal connecting piping that shall have to be replaced due to the pressure vessel failure. In addition to the nitrogen distillation column replacement, several cryogenic process control valves need to be replaced due to receiving damage. Also, there are structural material and panels that were damaged and require replacing before the ColdBox is fully functional. The transfer pump is in need of overhaul in order to operate at maximum efficiency. Lastly, a full ColdBox system internal pressure recertification test is required to ensure system leak-free operation. The pressure test shall verify that the entire ColdBox is free from external leaks and the internal distillation components hold pressure in their respective circuits prior to performing a complete system checkout operation.

2.2 Once all the repairs are completed, an operational checkout of the entire ASU shall be conducted before handing the system back to the USAF for future use.

2.3 The following components and material shall be provided and installed in the recovery of the ColdBox.

A.Nitrogen Distillation Column (new design)Part Number - 951450-001
B.Cryogenic Valve Assy, Electric operated - V24Part Number – 482250-002

K.Liquid Oxygen Transfer Pump Overhaul KitPart Number – 951441-005
L.ColdBox Pressure Test Flanges, Gauges &Valves Part Number – 956500-Kit

3.0 The Cryogenic plant referenced was manufactured by PCI, model # ASU5-1626 RSPA, and NSN is 3655-01-459-2005. The contractor shall have to have extensive knowledge of functionality and workings of a cryogenic plant. It is essential that an expert welder be present when repairing the piping and attaching the nitrogen column. The contractor shall also need to manufacture/acquire a nitrogen column along with all the parts listed above.
