STATEMENT OF WORK
FOR
CROPLAND CONVERSION
1._Description: This statement of work includes providing all labor, equipment, herbicides, grass seed and supplies for the conversion of 255 acres of irrigated cropland to native species grassland. The area is located on Melrose Bombing Range which is approximately 10 miles south and 10 mile west of Melrose, New Mexico in TIN R30E Section 13 which is in Roosevelt County. A site visit should be accomplished by the bidders to ensure accurate acreages and working conditions.
1.1. The first parcel of land is approximately 125 acres which is located in the NE 1/4 of Sec 13. This acreage requires initially planting a cover crop of hay-grazer or German Millett. After the cover crop is established and reaches a height of 36” another herbicide application is required to kill the cover crop. After the herbicide application is complete, a native grass seed mixture shall be planted using a grass drill. Upon a sufficient stand of the native grass, a second application of herbicide may be required for weed control.
1.2 The second parcel contains approximately 130 acre and requires an initial herbicide application immediately prior to planting a native grass seed mixture. After the grass is established, a second application of herbicide may be required for weed control. The initial planting should be accomplished following receipt of sufficient moisture for planting after 1 June, 2009, but no later than 30 August, 2009.
2.__Principle Items of Work: The work includes, but is not limited to the following items:
2.1 Herbicide Application: Herbicide may be applied by ground or aerial methods. Precautionary practices must be utilized to prevent herbicide drift to surrounding acreages.
2.1 Herbicide: The herbicide shall be based on application rate of 10 gallons of water with a concentration of 10 gallons water, 40 oz, glyphosate (Roundup), 8 oz. of 2-4-D amine, .1 oz. of ally chemical herbicide, along with ammonium sulfate and drift protection additives. This concentration is for ground application and ratios may change dependent on application method utilized.
2.3 Grass Drill: The grass drill shall be capable of planting native grass seed. The drill shall have depth bands and press wheels as mandatory accessories.
2.4 Grass Seed Mixture: The grass seed mixture shall be a Pure Live Seed mixture of 3.5 pounds Blue Gramma mixed with .5 pounds of Sand Dropseed per acre.
2.5 Grain Drill: The drill used for planting the cover crop shall be capable of placing the seed on 24 inch intervals. If the drill has drops of 12 inch centers, every other port shall be plugged.
2.6 German Millet: If German Millett is used as a cover crop, it shall be drilled at a rate 4 pounds per acre.
2.7 Hay-Grazer: If hay-grazer is utilized for a cover crop, an application rate of 10 pounds per acre shall be applied.
