FA4610-15-R-0029; Repair Fire Alarm Panel, Bldg 871 Question and Answers
1. Do existing buildings have fire protection systems installed?
Answer: No
2. Do existing buildings have fire detection systems installed?
Answer: Yes, but it is outdated and unserviceable
3. Are existing systems, if installed, to remain in service until after acceptance testing of new system(s)?
Answer: This can be determined during design
4. Do existing buildings have any form of fire suppression ( ie dry chemical, clean agent) system(s)?
Answer: see answers to question 1
5. Do existing buildings have Mass Notification Systems?
Answer: No
6. Provide ceiling type for all areas of work for this project(s).
Answer: Ceiling type varies and was available for viewing at the site walk. Can be determined during design.
7. Provide wall type for all areas of work for this project(s).
Answer: This is investigative design work to be performed by the awardee.
8. Provide location of any existing alarm panels, power panels, duct type smoke detectors and fire protection risers.
Answer: This is investigative design work to be performed by the awardee.
9. If existing buildings do have any fire detection/protection systems, please advise if they will be partially re-used (wiring, conduit, devices), and if not reused will they be condemned in place or will they need to be removed.
Answer: See SOW.
10. Does the existing system have to remain functional as the new system is installed?
Answer: No
11. Who is responsible for any fire watch if required?
Answer: If required, Govt will provide.
12. Who is responsible for any escorts if required?
Answer: Contractor
13. What areas will require escorts?
Answer: None
14. Can you provide the Mechanical equipment schedule so as to identify any equipment that needs to be part of the new FA system?
Answer: This is investigative design work to be performed by the awardee.
15. Can you provide the electrical plan sheets for the mechanical equipment so we can identify where to interrupt the power for the new FA system?
Answer: This is investigative design work to be performed by the awardee.
16. Will Plenum wiring be allowed so long as it meets or exceeds base standards for low voltage cable management systems?
Answer: No, all wire must be in conduit.
17. Can you provide a copy of the fire alarm device layout wall plaque that is located above each existing annunciator or at the main FACP, which shows all the existing locations? Need to gut all the old since it has ½ C , so the existing device layout would be helpful (Q8). Also the hard lid ceilings look like there asbestos & what about the lead paint?
Answer: Floor plans are available as an attachment in FBO as part of the solicitation. Contractor shall determine as part of the design the new layout. Asbestos and LBP surveys are now provided as attachments in FBO as part of the solicitation.
18. Who is responsible for cosmetic repairs to existing wall paper that is no longer available?
Answer: Contractor shall match existing or as close as possible
19. Does all exposed conduit have to be painted to match existing surfaces?
Answer: Yes
20. Is red conduit required?
Answer: Contractor’s design shall meet all applicable codes.
21. Please provide mechanical as builts and or number of HVAC units that will require duct detectors and shut down per code.
Answer: This is investigative design work to be performed by the awardee. This equipment was available for survey during the site visit.
