Requirements for working/accessing UXO areas:
1. All personnel who will be accessing UXO areas will receive UXO familiarization course prior to work commencement.
2. Obtain schedule for UXO familiarization through USAF EOD at 605-1375.
3. Hired UXO Technicians’ credentials will be sent electrically or presented to 30SWSEW@us.af.mil and steven.mckinnon.1@us.af.mil to ensure qualifications prior to work commencement…preferable at least two weeks in advance.

For all intrusive activities in UXO areas, two qualified UXO techs are required for each team conducting intrusive activities to provide anomaly avoidance to a predetermined depth determined in conjunction with 30 SW Weapons Safety and USAF EOD. The predetermined depth will be determined by the type of ordnance found to be present and past experience.
6. Intrusive activities are defined as: any activity off of improved dirt of paved roads with vehicles/equipment or digging.
7. The lead UXO technician(s) and project foreman will stop by the USAF EOD and then the 30 SW Weapons Safety office to receive local area particular UXO safety information.
8. Project foreman will keep 30 SW Weapons Safety office apprised of the schedule of the project.
9. While project operations are being conducted in UXO areas, a daily morning UXO safety briefing will be conducted for all personnel to
a. remind all of the potential dangers
b. what to do if they suspect they have located UXO.
c. No smoking
d. Emergency procedures; fire, lightning, evacuation etc.
10. Keep in mind:
a. While a surface UXO clearance was conducted in the area, UXO remain in dense shrubbery areas, steep slope areas and below the surface.
b. Munitions up to the size of a 500 lb bomb have been found 12-14 feet underground.
c. Once a potential UXO is discovered, base USAF EOD will be contacted and dispatched to handle the potential UXO. At no time is the hired UXO technician(s) to handle potential UXO.
11. These procedures will be printed and included when the AF Form 103 (dig permit) is routed/coordinated.
