SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS

Dental X‐Ray Trainer

Salient Characteristics:

Below are the minimum salient characteristics for the required dental X-Ray manikin training heads:

• Manikin head must be made with real teeth and is enclosed inside the manikin head with an articulated mandible mechanically for smooth and durable movement.

• Manikin head should be filled tissue-equivalent material for appropriate radio-absorption.

• Teeth must be anchored by slightly resilient plastic gums that also reduce chipping and are coated with radiolucent, shock absorbing material.

• Must have a lifelike, pliable, tongue to add realism to the training environment.

• The pliable tongue is supported on the floor of the mouth by a tissue-equivalent vinyl section.

• The outer skin is made of vinyl and the flesh is molded directly onto the skull.

• X-ray manikin heads must have a manual/mechanical method for opening and closing the mouth and hold it open in any position.

• Must have an adjustable device to hold head firmly onto the dental headrest so it does not move while it is being used.

• Must have a way to suspend the trainer from the back of a chair.

• The head is mounted with a ball-and-socket joint (or equivalent) corresponding to the base of the cervical spine, held securely in position by a clamping device.
